Just thought I would update this thread. The new coolers are up on the site for 15% off this month.

Done one track day with mine, seems to work pretty well. It was ~85 deg F outside and while the oil heated up to 220 or so I didn't have any issues. At least not noticeably different than the original one in my experience. I don't have any hard data really

Thanks for the response! Since you had the original leaking version, does this redesign look like an improvement on the weak points?

I hope bimmerworld will chime in on this thread about the redesign.

Word I hope so too.

I'm guessing part of the original's problem was that it mounted onto the radiator via rigid tabs welded to the frame of the cooler. Over time, bumpy roads would shake the thing so much that the core fins/cooling passages came apart from the frame. The new one uses the stock shroud so this shouldn't be a problem. The BW website states the new one has "30% greater cooling capacity at half the weight of stock part", that sounds great but I just hope its durable as well. Unfortunately my cars had a few unrelated issues since installing the new cooler so I've only put on about 5k miles. Its held up so far but I haven't used it in the cold yet.

So it's Sunday morning and I'm back home from a race weekend which I was not able to race due to a bad BW CR oil cooler, this is my second cooler they sent me. I did not race last year, this cooler has exactly six races on it and now it's leaking, all the time and money spent to for a race weekend down the drain... I try to buy the best parts possible as per James Clay recommendation however this is a problem and I'm wondering what could be done about it I'm sure I'm out of warranty but there is zero damage on my oil cooler.

Was this the new lightweight one or the older one?
