From my interactions with him, he told me the same thing. Plus it helps that their tune can pass smog in CA.

I don't expect any of them to say that they sacrifice reliability for power. I haven't worked much personally with TTFS but I've done dozens and dozens of Epic and Evolve tunes for customers, seen the inner workings and neither run what I would consider an aggressive tune.

I wish that any of them were more transparent with how they alter knock sensitivity. I've talked with a few people who have tuned the car, and after I heard "oh yeah, that thing's crazy, we just turn it off" I just thought to myself "well, no tunes until I get an aftermarket ECU and I can do it myself, then"

Who told you they turn off knock control?

Turning off knock controls is very dangerous especially in california. Crappy gas could lead to stew of problems.

Does Epic offer an “smg tune” like ttfs does?

Epic was tuning SMG before anyone ever heard of TTFS.

Randy was the originator of the S54 swap in E36 cars on stock electronics.

I've been tuned by Randy prior to Epic ever existing as a business. I've only had his tunes in racecars and I've never had a failure. A car I sold has been running an Epic tune since 2008 and in my use had 10,000 race, trackday rental, rental race and won championships with an Epic tune. The same engine has gone another 10,000+ miles on track with it's successive owners and still has perfect compression and leakdown.

Randy isn't forum guy, he's tremendously busy and stays on the cutting edge of what is happening in motorsports and the boxes that run these cars.

More than enough reason for me to go with him. Thanks for the first hand insight!

I’ve been running TTFS for almost 2 years. New Epic race tune will be here Wednesday. I’ll update when I get it loaded. Gonna dyno before and after back to back.
