Default 2011 E92 M3 Competition - Mystery button HELP

Bought a used M3 2 years ago and have a mystery button.

It is under neath the lip of the center console (so you can’t actually see it). See picture (yellow dot). The interior is not my car, just needed a quick pic to show location.

When off it is red and when pressed it turns to green.

Previous owner called it the ‘fun’ button while I test drove it. I thought nothing of it but now I am trying to figure out what it is.

E92 M3, DCT, Competition, AFE intake, Remus (sport) exhaust. The rest is OEM (I think).

Oddly, I have never checked to see if this something tacky like neon lights. The thought that this might be neon lights horrifies me. Car was purchased in NJ and had a bunch of fake carbon fiber tidbits on it - so I guess neon is just as likely as anything else.

I am the original owner of a 2013 E92 M3 w/Competition Pkg and MDCT. I have never heard of this button. I will check tomorrow and let you know what I found, if anything.

Here are some actual pics and a picture of my engine compartment. Beyond the AFR intake, I don’t see too much going on.

I love your steering wheel. I have the same one with a red 12 o’clock stripe.

That button is clearly aftermarket and as such we can't know what it's for other than guesses. Maybe you can contact previous owner.

Sadly, i have come to the same conclusion. Previous owner is MIA. I am contemplating reverse engineering the wiring to see where it goes. Should be a fun exercise.

Thanks.

That looks to be a SprintBooster, i have one in my Mercedes CLK that looks just like that. It just "re-maps" the drive by wire to increase a bit of the lag associated with the stock setup.

You read that correctly, congrats. It’s the “lag” associated with a drive by wire setup.
