Default No More Airbags, so no more Air Bag Light

After removing the steering wheel airbag, as well as the side airbags and the front passenger airbag, I have had a bright red air bag light staring at me every time I got into the car. I decided to change that today.

After spending nights with my new bible (The Bentley E46 Manual), I realized that all airbag sensors feed into the main air bag brain, which is located right under the center console. If there is no module, and it is not grounded, no airbag is technically missing. Obviously there will be a fault in the computer, but there won't be a light on my dash. I also considered adding resistors like others have, to trick the computer into thinking there was an airbag, but honestly, that is just foolish. If you are removing one airbag, you are compromising the rest of the airbags and you really should remove them all.

So I removed the module, and taped up the ground with electric tape, and voila. No Airbag light.

This is for cars that no longer have airbags and are tired of staring at that red light looking at you in the face. I would not suggest doing this if you have the steering wheel airbag and/or any of the other airbags in the car.

This is what the airbag module looks like:

It is important to electric tape the ground, or else it will short and the airbag light will go on and off constantly.

Oh yeah, it weighs less than 1 lb.

This seems like a great idea... any problems since doing it? Anyone else see any downside?

Once you remove the module, u remove all airbag functionality in the car. So all your airbags are dead weight.

Yep, and dead weight should be removed since it is useless.

that requires removing the dash. ask me how i know (not my car)

locate the two metal gas canisters. those are the bottom of the curtain airbags. i am dreading removing my dash, but its the only way to remove those airbags w/out cutting them. i also am removing my audio wiring harness now that howard stern can be listened to on the sirius app on my iPhone!

I have an airbag light that cannot be cleared (gave control unit fault). I ought to remove the module since it's worthless anyway and get rid of that pesky light!

I just had the glove box out and the vent cover, and it looked like you could access both bolts for the passenger side curtain you have circled with just the glove box removed. I was surprised to find the side curtain that low, and thought about removing the base and pulling the sock out of the A pillar without removing it, but I am tired and quit. After seeing your photo, I may try in the morning.

Big weight savings in removing the audio.
