Other than weight loss, what can one battery over another offer in terms of benefits? There must be something.. otherwise there wouldn't be a 3 page thread about this, right?

Deka has a number of smaller batteries if you're looking for maximum weight savings as well.
So Nick, two questions:

1. Is it the ETX30L or the 9A34 that I would want?

2. There really are NO negatives about using this battery in a DD?

Thanks,
E

1) The 9A34 is twice the size of the ETX30L (and twice the cost). I will freely admit that I probably would choose something larger if I had to deal with, say, Michigan or upstate NY winters. That said, it has been fantastic in the DC winter, even when left outside.

2) Downsides are: Running the stereo with the engine off is asking for trouble. This goes for ANY smaller battery. I've never tried to experiment with how long I can get away with this for, but it's not something that I would recommend. And if anything, these batteries are better in a DD because sitting for lengthy periods of time will allow them to get drained by the car.

Edit: You do need to buy SAE terminals for the little Dekas.

I have a 3rd question for the ETX30L. Would an SMGII car make any bit of difference or concern? I already have one minor strike against me as I'm in the North East region.

Wrong, forum members are in a state of nirvana when 30lbs can be removed from their cars, we are all crazy. Bring on the group buy.
