Default Hit 20K today..

So my 2006 ZCP hit 20k today. I recently purchased it from a local dealer. She has got four fresh Contis on it and fresh oil. What type of miles you guys have on 2006 M's? I know average cars should do about 10-12k a year, but since M's are more of a speciality car do you guys thing they average less? Also, any big maintenance items I should be looking at in the next 10k?

Have 19,280 Mls on it right now. Already did a Complete Inspection I per dealership goodwill approved by BMWNA before the warranty expired last March. Not my DD so it will be a once a year change oil and whatever else it needs.

Default 54K

Im approaching 54K miles. I actually drive it alot (took it on 4 LD trips last year) but I'm starting to ease off now that it broke 50K. Although, I don't mind racking up the miles since I'm planning to have it for a while...it so hard to stay out of the car. Just keep up with your inspections and it wouldn't hurt to change the oil between intervals. I get it changed every 7K miles.

My 20k Brother....

I did, coolant, PS fluid, valve adjustment, engine oil, cabin, fuel, vanos, and fuel filter, and brake fluid bleed @ 20K mi. I also cleaned my ABS sensors at each wheel.

My diff and tranny oil were changed last year so I left those out, but if I didn't know the history, I'd do those too.

The car's going on, if not already 5yo.

In my case, b/c of my low mileage, I had to "fight' the dealer to do anything on a "time-out" basis. They kept telling me "every thing's fine" and "all you need is annual oil and filter changes".

Did you put the new tires on b/c of the date, or were they worn out? My original tires have plenty of tread depth left. If they were worn, check your alignment too.

I believe they were worn. I am plnning on having it lined up. It drives and tracks perfect, but still may be a little out.

The service records indicate a brake fluid flush about 15 months ago.

As fare as Vanos, just the word scares me. But if the filter isn't a big deal I will look into it.

As fare as the valve adjustment I was planning on looking into it at 30k. The you think I should look into it sooner? The car was completely stock when I purchased it and show no signes of being beaten on.

Also, what is included in inspection I?

If the dealer did the brake flush, they use the low-vis fluid-good for 2 years max.

Vanos filter is easier than a spark plug. It's right up front, and very accessible. There's a DIY in the maintenance section, but if you can tighten a bolt, you can do it.

Valve adjustment was suppose to be checked @ inspection I (along with oil, oil & cabin filter). My dealer could "tell by listening" that I was 'OK'. When I did it, there were 6 shims that 'could' be changed, but only one that would be considered "out" of range. I'm sure a shop would have only changed the one shim. Don't think I'd do it again considering my usage and driving habits unless it was TO CHECK MY VANOS BOLTS.

The biggest reason why I did it was to CHECK THE VANOS BOLTS ON THE CAM GEARS, did I mention that?

Not to rain on your parade, but worn tires within 20K may be a sign of hard driving too. Like I said, I now have about 21K and my OEM tires look not too far from new.

If you're a DIY guy, you can do everything for about $500, and with our mileage, it doesn't have to be done all at once. Paying for a shop or dealer to do it is at least $1000 or more if they use factory parts/fluids and don't skimp on the valve adjustment.

You're probably just looking at Inspection I if it hasn't already been done. I would just follow the cars maintenance intervals, but change the oil every inspection and when the car says 7500 miles to service/inspection. That will keep you changing the oil roughly every 7500 miles, instead of the recommended 15K mile interval.
