The DME recall is an old one. Most should have had that one done by now

Stopped in at Sterling BMW to inquire about the airbag recall in January. Was told that it is indeed based upon VIN #. Had them run mine and it was determined that mine did fall into the group affected. Got on the wait list and was told to expect anywhere from 6-8 weeks, but I was prepared for longer from reading the forum comments from others.

Decided today to just give a curiosity call to see how the wait list was looking, as luck had it I was on the call back list for today as well to set up an appointment as they just got a shipment in.

I'll be dropping it off on Tuesday, and report how it went etc. Total wait time so far was just shy of 3 weeks.

So my local dealer in Miami ordered both driver & pass. airbag inflators. Lo and behold, I got a call from the service advisor who took care of me last week to tell me that they have arrived. When I said I would drop the car off tomorrow, I was told I could come in and wait for the work to be done. Wow!!!! I'm going for it. I will keep you posted.....

Called Beverly Hills BMW the other day and was put on the wait list. 14 people ahead of me! ETA for the part is somewhere around April.

It took the dealer i went to about 90 minutes from handing the keys over to getting the car back (with a very marginal "car wash").

I waited for mine.

Check! Got mine done last Friday and took an hour and a half for just the passenger side only.

UPDATE.....

Had an appointment with Sterling BMW this morning to get the recall addressed. Have been going there for years as the guys in the parts dept are great. Knowledgeable, friendly, and know their stuff, especially Ken.

Well, that's about where it ends.

Upon arrival at the service dept, which is a drive up, was greeted and asked if I had an appointment, to which I did and he confirmed. He then told me someone would be right with me. There was another e46 there in front of me for the same issue.

They did not seem very busy. Three car attendants, and about 7-8 service advisors inside at their desk. Only one of them, from what I could see actually had a customer, the others were "just there". You might be getting an idea of where this is going......

After about a 15 minute wait, I approached one of the attendants and asked what might be causing the delay, his response was "... it's pretty much like this all the time, but someone will be with you soon." After a (45 min) wait, a service advise approached the lady ahead of me and took her into the office. Well, at least some progress. It took another (15 mins) before that same person came out to assist me. WTF ???!!!

When I actually got to the service desk to provide info etc, I noticed that there were 8-10 people just hanging around at their desk picking their as#s' as far as I could see. I thought to myself "you've got to be kidding???!!!" After finally getting the paperwork sorted, I was directed to the "loaner vehicle office", where I was acknowledged and told it would be a few minutes. (15 mins) later .... here's that theme again, an individual did come out and got me from the lounge area. Maybe it was I was just tired of waiting, or his personality just stuck me wrong... or both, but I thought about it and finally just said Fu#k it. I went back to the service dept and told them to forget working on the car today. I'm considered very patient, though from the time arrived until this point was over 1+15 and it didn't need to be that way.

I have owned several BMW's over the years and never have had such poor customer service as this. Competition is pretty tough in So. Calf for them to be so complacent and nonchalant with this. I have good experiences with Long Beach BMW and Crevier BMW in the past. Sterling happened to be the closest to me, and as I mentioned... their parts guy is great.

Sorry guys...... I'll gladly wait a bit longer for the other dealers to get the part in and give them my business, and when the M2 finally makes it on the road.... I'll be buying it from someone other than Sterling.

Just called my dealer. They said my car is covered by the driver and passenger recalls, they have the parts on hand for the passenger side, so I'm having it done this Saturday morning. I was expecting a wait of a few weeks, but they said they've got the parts on hand and are doing them as the cars come in. He said they are inspecting driver side ones and replacing them as needed.

So I guess not every '04 - '06 driverside air bag is covered under the recall... only certain ones? Anyone else getting this information?

EDIT - yep... just looks like 8,540 units are being recalled... not everyone. And not mine. Damn... I really wanted a new airbag.
