Default What do you think a fair price would for...

... a 2001 convertible, 32K miles, 6 speed, very minor wear and tear? E46s are kinda new to me, I already know about the subframe, to stay away from the smg like the plague, what else should i be looking for?

Not the "plague" just be careful. You can always swap so don't worry too much on that.

You are asking a question that has a greatly varying answer. I personally would pay 10K maybe ? I know some guys would pay more.

Its a convertible and just the fact that it has low milage does not correlate with reliability. Keep in mind its a 16 year old car.

It's hard to decide prices when dealing with a convertible. I think it would be be worth something around 14-18k if they find they find the right buyer. I wouldn't buy a convertible and many others wouldn't either. If I were you, I would look for a higher mileage manual coupe to purchase, maybe in the 80-110k mileage range. There's many people on this forum who end up regretting the decision of getting a convertible. Pay for a pre purchase inspection from an independent shop who works on BMW's. Ask for them to check the subframe, and make sure you get maintenance records from previous owners. The first year is usually the most expensive and on average could run you 3-5k from repairs that can randomly come up. Good luck and hope you get a nice m3!

Well said. Im a convertible owner, but thats by choice. My kids love it and thats a big deal on my toy/secondary car. Now that I am dabbling in some performance driving, I would like to have a coupe for that reason alone. Stick with a coupe if you think you want to spend time at the track.

And 3-5k for the first year is the truth. Thats about where I am now after just over a year.

My advice to everyone is to buy something that has records. Id rather have higher mileage with records than lower miles with none. Well documented/maintained M3s are out there.

If that 2001 is well maintained and in good condition, its a 15K car.
