Must is correct if you want to get the best out of the shock.

Meh. I'm perfectly happy with my B12 kit and stock hats. I did trim the bump stops because y'all scared me into it.

Good for you. You may also be happy on Hankook V12s and VMRs.

You opened the Billy struts and shortened the bumpstops?

That's effectively the same as running short camber plates.

Yes, for the best/most natural handling and balance you must do something to restore the front travel, either plates or cut bumpstops (but you better know what you're doing with the latter).

I'm on B4's with stock springs. No height change, and improved over stock--and just slightly firmer. Happy for the price paid for the B4s. But---to do it again, I'd go Dinan springs or CSL springs.

What's the appeal of the csl springs anyway.. is it the name? They were designed for much lighter car... I'd go with eibach springs with koni

Yeah I think someone tried the CSL springs and it dropped the car more than expected. The 10mm drop, on the actual CSL, sounds ideal. The closest we'll get are Dinans. I should've kept mine, ECS has them for 250, might grab another set.
