Just a thought: Since the SMG transmission is the same as the manual transmission, does the SMG balk at second when cold? I know my manual doesn't like to shift into second for the first quarter mile of driving!

I have the same issues on really cold mornings...first and second are hard to get into, but it def isn't griding...once warmed up after a few minutes it's fine....like others said I work the clutch to get it in and don't force it in gear.
