any error codes? camshaft position sensor perhaps?

Nope, no error codes and I doubt it's the CPS. It's very intermittent as well. If it happens today it may be a couple of weeks before it does it again.

Mine was the fuel pump. The old rubber house had a crack in it

This sounds like my problem! When I leave it overnight, the 1st crank barely starts it, dies; then my second crank starts the car.
The fuel pump might be causing my sputtering!

I replaced my fuel pump maybe 2 or 3 yrs ago. Today she started up on the first attempt but with a very, very slight stumble.

I had this problem last year. I removed the injectors to have them cleaned and flow checked. Also changed the fuel filter at the same time. It starts right away on the first attempt.
