Default ZCP Steering wheel trim

Refinished trim set with the following process:

1. Simple green scotch bright pad along with 600 & 800 sandpaper to strip original finish completely
2. 2 Coats of primer with wet sanding in between coats
3. 3 coats of a metallic grey which is a near identical match, the best I've found thus far, can’t tell a difference unless you hold them right next to each other. All coats had wet sanding in between
4. 3 coats of matte clear coat with wet sanding and one final coat that gives it the factory finish

I spend about a week doing this process, it allows the paint to properly cure between each step and sanding, I've found this process gives the best results that beats buying the pieces new for over $400 from ecs or elsewhere, asking $200 shipped.

If that trade falls through, I'm interested. Will also consider taking the refinished trim of M Dream's set after you complete your magic.

Sounds good, this thread will serve as a running list unless the demand becomes more than expected, which I doubt.

If I send you my worn trim, would you be willing to refinish it and send it back? If so, curious how much you’d charge.

At some point, Id be willing to do that. Id like to have one done that I can post pics of and you can see before you buy it, so you know what your getting. Mainly to avoid unhappy customers, bc Ill be honest, its more of an art than a science at this point especially with the metallic paint on a curved surface.

But if mcfried has a worn set hes gunna swap me youll have first dibs on that once pics go up.

This is a great service to the members with scratched wheel trims. Factory did a lousy job on the ZCP steering wheel in my opinion. I like the rubbery texture of the cheaper e46 normal steering wheel which have not scratched off after 18 yrs.
