Default The joy of rental cars

So I just had a quick business trip and had to drive a Chevy Cobalt as a rental car. not a bad car for an econobox but the thing is after driving the m3 for even just a couple of months (since i bought the car) i kinda get used to the car and take it somewhat for granted sometimes.

then when you drive a 'normal' car, you painfully realize what you're missing.

so it's good to drive crappy cars from time to time to remind ourselves we drive a truly special vehicle.

2 things about the cobalt:

the seating position is ridiculously high, it seemed like it was higher than some minivans or maybe it feels that way compared to the m3...
the OBC is really nice, it has an instant mpg display and tire pressure display and oil life % left indicator.

I know exactly what you mean. I have only had my //M for a couple months now but about 3 weeks ago when I went back home(Baltimore, Maryland) I was lucky enough to get to drive my uncles(fellow M3 driver!) beater car, a 5 speed dodge neon. As soon as I got home I jumper right in my car and went for a dive. The thing felt like a rocketship after driving the dodge all week and really showed me how great the M really is!(not like I didnt already know!) LOL

oh, one more 'nice' thing about rentals and 'normal' cars, you don't have to care about speed bumps.

i got a pt cruiser as a rental car recently.

it had 800 miles on the clock when i started driving it. by the time i brought it back, the check engine light was on and the tire tread was unevenly worn due to me having fun with the ebrake Oh and i also hit a dip at 45 and it ripped the bottom of the front bumper up.

The extra 10 dollars a day for insurance was worth it

That's exactly why I keep a beater Corolla around. The only maintenance I have to do on it is oil changes. I haven't even washed the thing in three years.

driving a camry at the moment while the car is in the shop. Can't wait to get my car back.

but I have to say, driving a more "civil" car like a camry, (or my dad just bought am '09 Honda Pilot) is nice. the M3 is uber-harsh in comparison, especially with the PSS9's. :P

My car's no ///M, but I get that same feeling when I drive a POS, really makes you appreciate how nice your car is compared to everything else on the road.

oh so true.. the last business trip i went on.. i got stuck with a prius... and man... did it ever save gas lol.. 13 bucks was all the gas i used after about 6 hours of driving with 2.5 hours of freeway time in the states. but it couldn't pass anyone on the freeway for the life of it... i missed my M3 that time greatly...

but the next trip, I managed to get a vw gti... i had fun in that car
