Do you have or plan on getting a HANS device?

Nate- thx very helpful. Funny thing I have several track events under my belt in high hp sophisticated perf cars..... with all the aids turned on made me a rock star... it wasn’t until I hopped into my stock e36, until I realize holy shirz I’m doing this wrong!! This experience will make me a better driver I’m sure.

HANS device on the list as and when I get more serious.

Hell yea man, you'll ultimately have more fun this way, as you can get the E36 to the ragged edge a lot easier than you can with an AMG or something like a 911, which takes serious talent to drive 10/10ths. All this track talk makes me want to get back out there badly...

I'll tell you this...... I did not really appreciate this car UNTIL I took it to the track for 5-20 minute sessions @ speed......... these cars are built very well, and you will not fully understand what they are capable of until you are the limit on a track near you.

I love this thing more now after the 100min's of intense operations....... am I fast NO.... do I have room to grow... YES...... it will be a fun journey.

Well set up, they are quite neutral and you can get them to do what you want. Understeer and oversteer are easy to control and adjust. Quite different from a 993 which feels like a pendulum at the back and will understeer till it oversteers off the track. Some like the challenge. I prefer a nice benign car that will respond well to changes in weight transfer and not try to kill you in the process of learning your and the car's limits. Driving modern cars at the track can be a frustrating exercise as they do a lot for you and then flash a light when they are intervening and you cannot feel what you did wrong. Also they can feel unnatural as you power thru a turn you can feel the torque vectoring allowing you to turn in when you should be swinging wide.

So I've come full circle on this build..... at first it was all LS Swap.... then a stock Rebuild.... but my engine builder talked me into an S54 Swap.

He's sourcing a suitable donor S54 now..... will keep the 5spd for low weight...… will sell off the running S52...… drop off the car 12/15 for the start of E36/S54 fun. Will keep you all posted.

Looking forward to another 50rwph!

lol tight, looking forward to seeing this. Do you have much seat time in an S54 car? I bought an E46 M3 a month or two ago, and today I got back into the E36 for the first time in like 2 weeks. The motors are pretty different. Interested to hear your thoughts!
