Default Fuel Pump Relay Error?

I've recently had an intermittent issue with loss of power under load, and at occasionally at sustained highway speeds.

INPA gives me a fuel pump relay error (along with a few others). Does anyone know if this means the actual relay (about $15 part), or is it more likely the ekp control module (which is 10 times the price). I suspect the latter, but any insight is appreciated.

I can't say for sure, but I do know that if you don't feel like replacing the expensive EKP you can just run a standard relay using pin 10 of the DME to trigger it. This is how Euro cars are wired, and I wired my E30 w/ S54 this way.

Thanks. Iíll defintely keep this in mind if I go down that road.

But before going down that road does anyone know how to test whether it is the fuel pump itself or the ekpm module that is failing? If I canít figure that out Iíll start with the relay/control module and then the fuel pump if necessary. However Iíd rather not replace the control module if it is still working fine.

Iíve looked high and low but canít find a test procedure to isolate the problem.

Usually it's the pump. I guess try checking for voltage at the EKP module. If it's ~10.5v, the module is fine. Alternatively try connecting the pump direct to 12v and see if it runs.
