Default What Transmission Fluid? Where to buy?

I was going to use genuine BMW trans fluid for my fluid change on my SMG but it seems it's NLA? I can't find it for sale anywhere. Seems like Pentosin is NLA as well....I'm not sure what to use at this point. If you know where I can get those fluids, let me know.

I use Fuchs Titan Sintofluid MTF. Absolutely no issues to date

Default Re: What Transmission Fluid? Where to buy?

Fuchs Sintofluid MTF is not the right specification for our car though. It is GL-5 rated which has the wrong add pack for our trannys - Our diffs want a GL5. Our synchros want the add pack from a GL4 fluid.

It's not just about weight (75w80), but there are some GL-4 fluids that are the more common 75w90 specs - those might be tougher to shift at first, but may be great for tracked cars especially in hot climates (?).

Ooop, wrong fluid. This is what I ordered
Fuchs Titan Sintopoid - SAE 75W-90 Synthetic (1 Liter) 600891626
Still GL-5 but rmeuropean says it's good for our cars. I'm no gearbox expert so that's what I based the purchase on. Do I need to refill with a different fluid?

Default Re: What Transmission Fluid? Where to buy?

Our gearbox asks for GL4 75w80. Our diff wants a heavier GL5. There are only 2 gl4 75w80s that I can find, BMW MTF LT2 and Pentosin MTF2.

GL4 has an add pack for tranny synchros and GL5 has the better ep (extreme pressure) add pack for diff gears.

I would stick to the right spec

Thanks. It seems like the Pentosin is out of stock nearly everywhere. I wonder if it is no longer being produced? I bought my 2L from the ebay links you gave me.

pelican parts.com has some oem bmw mtf fluid in stock for same day from one of their suppliers or vendors, but you have to pay $128 for two liters I believe, or you can wait 3-7 business days and pay $83+ tax for 2 liters directly from them..

Ya, unfortunately our best fluids (Castrol 10w60, mtf2 & saf xj) are getting harder to buy and pricey online at least in the U.S. You're welcome Werfer.
