Default Re: Anyone printing money with bitcoins right now?

So this has been a learning experience so far. My risers finally arrived late last week. All that I needed was my PSU that was supposed to ship weeks ago. My first order was cancelled 2 weeks later by Amazon, probably due to no supply. 2nd order was supposed to also be quick 2 day shipping. Well, I got an email over the weekend stating that there was now a delay and no expected date, but probably mid August. I selected the option to wait for it, and in the mean time would seek alternatives.

Because I was getting sick of waiting, I went to my local Micro Center and picked up 2 EVGA 750W Platinum PSU's.

Finished my ugly wooden frame and began seating things in place. Hooked up the RAM, CPU, 1 PSU, and a cheap monitor. Everything actually booted up first try. I then got stuck on my Windows install. I have a USB key I've used for all of my Windows 7 installs. For some reason this one was asking for a CD/DVD driver, which I've never seen before. I don't have a spare optical drive laying around, so I tried doing what people online suggested. Finally, I found suggestions that with these new Motherboards, you need a lot of extra drivers. So, I used an MSI tool to create a driver folder on my USB Key. After 2+ hours of fiddling with this crap, I finally had Windows 7 installed.

I did some updates and what not, then installed 3 GPUS. This is messy in itself. My GPU's each require a 6+2 AND an extra 6 pin connection. Not every GPU I've seen requires this, and it was something I overlooked. Luckily each of my PSU's will support just enough of these connections. I get everything situated and boot up. Everything boots fine, no error lights or anything... But there's no output to my monitor. I then realize that when I added the GPU's, the video output would have to come from one of those, not the VGA port on the motherboard.

Well, my cheap monitor only supports VGA. My GPU's only output in DVI-D or HDMI. Great! So I go online and order a DVI-D -> VGA converter. In the meantime I need a way to see what's going on. I grab an older Samsung LED TV from upstairs I haven't used in a long time and connect it via HDMI. It just so happens this TV is dead. The red LED blinks indicating an issue with the power board. Guess I'll just have to wait on the adapter.

I also learned that in order to safely run 2 PSU's, I'll need some kind of adapter to allow them the share a ground and signal. I just ordered that on Amazon and should have it in by Friday.

Oh and then I received confirmation that my single 1200W GPU is now shipped and on the way. The one that wasn't supposed to come in for many more weeks.

Assuming the rest goes smoothly, I think I can be up and running entirely by Saturday!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA

I feel your pain dude. You should see the amount of shit in my garage that I broke in various blind red mist rage attacks because something utterly stupid went wrong during the 3 week build process and it meant another trip to the store, or another prime now delivery, or more dumpster diving through old computer parts bins hahahaha!!!

Once you get to the software/hardware tuning and tweaking stage it'll throw just as much shit at you.

Sounds like a relaxing and rewarding hobby. Very zen-like.

It's never ending. Learning a lot though. I finally got 3 GPUs running last night. What a nightmare.

Some tips for others
-You need access to a 2nd pc
-Put drivers with your windows boot disc
-update the mobo first
-use the GPT partition when setting things up. (Guess who didn't do this and had no idea what it even was?!)

Hahahahahaha and since you've spent $99,000 on your goofy computer you're still running a Sony WEGA TV from 1992?
