I've run into a couple of fukking mega FPs.

1.) It turns out the issue is with the MB. Evidently the z170 chipset has PCIe limitations, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?to...42#msg15993142

Limits itself to 4xGPU, despite having 7 PCIe slots

2.) I don't know how in the fukking fuk this escaped me. But I was confused about the gfx card running in my test rig. Turns out it's been a RX470 all this fuggin time ... and the HP model was 560

So I've got 6xRX560, which sadly mine ETH at a max (non-overclocked) of 12mh/s. Luckily what they say is true - these things (RX5xx series) are pretty amazing at dual mining. with zero ETH mhs loss (crucial because that's the $$ maker right now), I'm also mining at 180mh/s SC. (the 470 went from 24mh/s ETH to 18mh/s ETH+520mh/s SC). So the monetary lift is better on dual mining with the RX560.

Ultimately tho, it means this rig today is running maxed at: 48mh/s ETH + 720mh/s SC. Not too bad, but a lot of wasted parts and money.

What I'll probably do is change out to a biostar MB, which should allow me to get to 72mh/s ETH + 1,080mh/s SC before overclocking. So maybe factor in another 10-15% on the overclock there once the whole thing is humming.

I'm trying to figure out if there's a more cost effective way here... maybe take spare parts, pick up 4 other GFX cards and build a second miner at a lower cost with this z170 chipset MB once I'm done with it.

Anyway, that's the update.

Currently mining at combined 65MH/s ETH + 1700 MH/s SC

Eesh what a headache but don't get discouraged. I keep telling myself it'll all be worth it some day.

Imagine 2 years from now if ETH is worth 3k a pop... or nothing.

wow that sux bro. glad you figured it out quickly, nothing worse than having issues and going crazy trying to figure it out part by part.

Posted a suggestion to see if you could exchange the MB, but see you got it working. That's great news.

Do you guys that have been into this for a while have any suggestions on a better platform to use or is coinbase and bittrex pretty good for someone kind of just starting out? I've been trying to read about all the different coins almost everyday to become more knowledgeable.
I missed this. Those are both 2 good ones. I would maybe add 1 or 2 more so that everything is set up in case you ever decide you want to pursue certain crypto that are only available on a certain exchange. Poloniex comes to mind. They offer a lot of stuff others don't.

I also ordered a new MB hahaha ... I have a feeling I've already got one foot in the grave on the next rig build

Building this thing has been a huge learning experience tho in a lot of ways, and I haven't even gotten to overclocking...

I'm still stuck at 5/6 cards running, but allegedly the work-around I found should allow me to run all 7 PCIe slots. Basically I flashed the bios to a backdated version, and then changed a bunch of functions in the bios. This allowed me to override the PCIe lanes on the MB, which eliminated some of the hardware conflicts. I think I need to get into the registry and do some fine-tuning on the addresses to eliminate the remaining conflict.

Currently running at 60 MH/s on ETH and 900 MH/s on SC on this machine now. In total about 78 MH/s on ETH and 1800-2000 MH/s on SC

Huge improvement! Nice job. Crazy what you had to do though.
