Default Need some opinions about a relatives ultra low mileage 02 vert

Uncle has a 2002 Dinan S3 supercharged convertible SMG. Red with black interior, the hard top, Dinan wheels. The car has just a tick over 20k miles on it. It has been sitting in his garage under cover and driven very little over the years. He is trying to get me to buy it but ....

I really don't want the SMG. I have an 02 vert with 6mt and love it. I would probably want to convert his if I had it. It just seems wrong to convert it with the low mileage on his car. I am guessing it needs to stay as is to hold the value as a low mile collector. So, would you buy it and just covert it? Drive the SMG till it dies? Or just sell the damn thing and get the money out of it? How much do you think that car would fetch on BaT or if he got a call from a certain used M3 dealer out there?

Have you driven an SMG M3 hard/at all? Do you know the gearbox?

I’ve got the same spec car just with 95k miles on it (non-supercharged of course) and I love it.

The car is already modified so I don’t think the OEM police are going to be happy either way regarding the 6MT swap.

Ultimately, don’t buy it if you won’t be thrilled with it. Just sell it to someone else who will truly appreciate it.

When my wife and I decided we wanted a weekend car our main wants were convertible and 6mt. I have nothing against the SMG other than it's not what we want. We just missed driving a car with a 3rd pedal.

Sounds like a nice car. Give SMG a chance, you may like it.

SMG is probably pretty nice new. I wouldn't know what a fresh SMG drives like, Mine was crap for 5 years until I converted.

I like both options so I have no opinion, but just wanted to say that car sounds fantastic!

That is not what I asked, but ok.

If i were to purchase another e46 m3, it would be an SMG and I wouldn't convert it. I miss it, honestly.

I probably wouldn't convert it in your situation, especially if it is a original, dealer installed S-3

Sounds like a fun car to me. SMG should stay.
