Default SMG Leaking Fluid

I had my car pop out of gear on me a couple weeks back and i have found why and where it's from. Ill show a picture of it. What exactly is this part and why is it spitting out hydraulic fluid. Its only when i start the car and try and shift gears. Any help would be helpful.

Is there any reason for hydraulic fluid to come out of there?

It's the clutch slave cylinder. From where on the unit is it leaking fluid?

Honestly i have no idea where its leaking from. I was in the car starting and shifting and my mechanic was under looking at where it was leaking from. Its not leaking from the lines but from somewhere inside the unit itself. I looked on ECS and the Clutch Slave Cylinder looks different from your picture. Here is the link: http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E46-M3-...nder/ES241919/

Could you send me a link to that page if possible? Thanks for the information!

I would have figured the line is leaking, which is does look a little crooked coming out of the unit in the pic you posted but I'll have to look at others to compare. If it is indeed leaking from somewhere within the unit then it would be best to just replace it.

If it's leaking from the clutch slave cylinder could it be something inside the gearbox itself? That's what I'm worried about.

Update: Replaced the clutch slave cylinder and everything is back to normal. Thanks for the help! For anyone who has a similar problem my symptoms were popping out of gear after driving 100 meters. The SMG would prime but it would lose pressure. Restarting the car will allow you to put it into gear again and pop back out after 100 meters. If your SMG fluid keeps running low i would look under your car to find the clutch slave cylinder and see if it is leaking. If it is you will probably need to replace it. Hope that helps!

i think i might have a problem similar to what you had, Car is cold starts fine either I have the Car parked or driving it (witch is what you had describe about 100 meters) light will come on about 1:30 min to 2 min, Then I turn it off waited for a little and It will do the same thing again, I have a few questions for you, did you notice low SMG Fluid ? was the car leaking by the Slave Cylinder. my SMG Fluid is good little old but does not seams to be loosing it. I just trying to know what are the steps to take to see if that is the Problem or could be something else. Thanks for feed back in advance .

The thread is from 2014 and Tang was last seen here in January. Doubt you'll hear from him.
