I think he didn't understand my point; I wasn't telling people to drive with the leaky seal -- major or minor, but rather to analyze if the leak had caused enough low oil and overheat. Again, the seal is about 1" higher than the oil level (in fact with all the constant mesh gears spinning around the oil level would be very low to pour out), so I think there is still much oil remained after just 10 miles drive.

Okay... So after pulling the trans again I did find the seal was very badly folded inside out.. Def would advise anyone thinking about doing this swap to make sure you install seal after the bellhousing is on!

I did wind up losing prly 1/2 to 2/3 or a liter driving mine those 10 miles. I do believe that is what led to the heat, and my (what I am now realizing are normal) trans noises being louder. I got the car back together today with the new seal and everything feels great! Used BMW MTF LT-2 for fluid instead of whatever it was I got from ECS the first time.

As far as me thinking it wasnt shifting right.. Well I am sure low fluid had a lot to do with that. It is a learning curve for sure. Seeing as the car has a new clutch and flywheel, and basically every single component in the drivetrain that seals anything or spins replaced... It just takes some getting used to. Also the only other thing I have to compare it to is the one other 6 speed m3 I have driven (which was completely beat/ worn out).

So- Overall I love it!! Very pleased with the whole project. Huge thanks to everyone in here who has helped!

******* Side thought****** Does anyone who has a bellhousing off know/ or would be capable of checking to see what size threads the two fitting screwing into the bellhousing are (the ones we connect nothing to when we put the swap back together). There is another forum member who makes custom air vent gauges. I think it would be awesome if I could get some kinda conversion fitting to remove one of those sensors, then adapt it to NPT so I could run a temp sensor. Thoughts on this, or does anyone know those sizes?

Installed before or after doesn't matter as long as the seal lip was protected from damaging by the input shaft splines.

Hey guys,

I finished my swap a day ago, and haven't had much time to test drive it, and don't even have it fully coded yet, but do have a couple of issues that need working out that I suspect are related to one another.

The car idles low when pulling into a parking spot or even at a light, it drops to about 500 and feels like it's going to stall even with the clutch in. Also above 2.5k I've noticed a new noise that sounds a bit like a whistle coming from around the intake.

My suspicion is that the hose at the bottom and towards the rear of the intake manifold wasn't reconnected correctly. I had a hard time getting it to seat nicely. Does anybody know if it's supposed to click into place, because I was not able to get it to click, and even seating it the best I could, it didn't seem all that secure.

Does anybody have a part number for that hose? I'd like to take a closer look at it before tearing out the whole airbox again. Where does it go/what does it do?

Thanks.

You may have missed, but the SMG DME software expects the clutch to be pushed in when idling ( I think this is reason) and you'll experience stalling occasionally. There is a difference in the file for the idle compared to the 6MT file.

Once you flash the 6MT DME File this will be corrected.
