Additionally, aren't those ducts (and hood vents) venting off the hot air coming directly off the radiator. So you are are saying the vents on top of the hood were not for cooling or exhausting that hot radiator and instead were mainly designed for downforce? Any source on that? While the ducting no doubt aids in downforce, I would think the major reason for them was for cooling. Is that incorrect?

No, you’re right. I totally forgot about the radiator if there is one there. I didn’t see it in the picture at first. The hood vents are in a low pressure area, and as airflow passes over the hood and vents, hot air is “extracted” from those vents and increases airflow through the radiator.

The vents will also be reducing lift created by the hood and assisting airflow underneath the car i.e, less hot engine air only able to escape underneath the body.

I studied mechanical engineering in school and participated in FormulaSAE, but this link below does a good job explaining things in a study of an S2000 track aero. I’ll admit I had to look this up to help me put it into words, it’s been a while.

Yup, looks like air restrictors to reduce horsepower (balance of performance). Would be nice to see a series that races production / GT cars without BoP.

Here are three pics from years ago in the PTG campaign days that may help the discussion:

Nope, the intake only superficially resembled the S62. Everything is very different from any other BMW V8 produced.
