Craigslist around my parts occasionally has running engines for around 3-5k. I picked one up in December with 95k verified miles, started right up. The car was t-boned, shame too because the interior was immaculate. $3,000 plus another 500 for him to pull it. He was even nice enough to put it on a pallet and wrap it super tight.

Personally, I’d not mess with broken/blown/smoked/shady engines. Too much guesswork, risk, and wasted time. It’s easier and more cost effective for me to refresh a running engine, machining gets really expensive really quick.

If your not in a rush, deals are out there.

Normally I would agree, but I just bought this as a motor to potentially rebuild or just use for parts if needed. My current car is running fine and I'm about to replace the rod bearings so I shouldn't need it for a long while.
