Question Bluetooth Audio for ZCP

I'm tired of using the rather inconvenient aux hookup in my car to listen to music from my phone, and would like to switch to Bluetooth audio. Being a ZCP, my car doesn't have factory Bluetooth (and no buttons on steering wheel for it). What options do I have? I want to keep the factory head unit.

I searched but everything seemed very out of date. On my S2000 I purchased this and it was pretty much a plug and play Bluetooth solution, is there anything like that for an E46?

I recommend the Firefly on Amazon. It works quite well, connects immediately upon entering my car, and has decent sound quality for being bluetooth.

Connect your male AUX cable to the female AUX port on that bluetooth dongle and plug the USB port into power. You can hook up power to the dongle in your glove box with the BMW Genuine Auxiliary Power Adapter which hooks into the flashlight port. Done.

I bought a used Audiovox "DICE" Mediabridge for mine. Plugged into the un-used CD-changer harness in the trunk. Came with a long loom which is run down the passenger side-sill and tucks behind the glovebox. It also supports AUX and USB. The only downside for me is that the USB does not charge very well, so I usually use BT audio and plug my phone into a lighter adapter instead for charging.

So the firefly turns on automatically when you get in the car? If that's the case, I may have to buy one... All the other products require you to push some sort of button.

I got a Grom unit for my E46 wagon. Works better than I expected. Would work fine on an M3 too.

This is what I use. Hooked up a mic at the stock location, modified an auxiliary from eBay to detect aux. Sound quality is better is top notch. And I still have a line input for cable aux.

Yes, exactly. I spent hours trying to find one that automatically turned on upon entering my car, instead of having to click a button to engage the Bluetooth connection...
The Firefly is plug n' play and it just works. The only downside is that it's for music only, no phone calls.

I use a DICE Mediabridge as well. Definitely like it, have the mic wired up and use it for music and phonecalls. Turns on automatically when the car is turned on.

bluetooth transmitter on amazon- there's little mic on many of them too in case your phone's in your pocket, and the audio from the phone plays over the speakers. you may not get as good a sound quality as an aux, but for 20 bucks its an inexpensive option for the one off drive where i need music
