Default 2006 M3 vert crank no start

Took my vert to the shore this weekend, awesome ride! Came home, washed it and..crank no start. I followed a bunch of threads to diagnose and treat no fuel pressure--basically in a nutshell:

0- Check for codes, my sel wasnt on, nor were there any codes.
1- Check fuse 54 (fuel pump) in glovebox.
2- Check fuses in underhood box, engine compartment on drivers side by firewall (5 fuses, number 3 in the middle is the money)
3- Check fuel pressure. I tapped the schrader valve on the fuel filter under the drivers side of the car. http://m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=286437. I had zero psi (normally about 60psi after turning the key to charge the system). New fuel filter is 20 bucks.
3a- Do you have spark? Squirt some starting fluid into the air intake and see if it runs briefly. In my case it fired right up.
4- take the back seat out, the round cover on the passenger side floor under the seat leads to the fuel pump. check for pump operation sound or vibration / 12v at the connector. (4 terminals- 12v, ground, 4.5v for gage, gage ground)
5- check the relay--(!disconnect battery first before removal!) it sounds as if bmw moves this relay location around per model year-- on my 2006 vert it is located behind the rear passenger side trim panel. Some coupe owners found it in their trunk near the battery behind the trunk trim.
6- The 8-pin relay the M3 uses only connects to 4 terminal positions. Mine was fine. (its $120 new)
7- The M3 fuel pump pressure is controlled by the ecm unlike the other e46s. A replacement pump with the solid state controller is a little north of 400 bucks. Brace yourself M3 owners since in e46 posts they'll quote just over a hundred.

the fuel regulator is connected to the fuel filter under the car, it sends excess fuel back into the gas tank. I didnt need to swap the pump, but it doesnt seem like a bad job at all (dropping gas tanks to get to pumps is a bad job imho).

Hope this helps

So regarding your point 6 -- US M3s control the fuel pump via PWM using that solid state relay. That signal won't work properly with a traditional relay. You can change the trigger pin to the Euro setup to use a traditional relay.

good to know...Bentley simply punts on the M3's fuel managment system "takes special diagnostic tools" and that 8-pin fuel relay isnt described at all.

What's the euro setup?

Same as every other E46. DME sends 12v out, triggers a relay, fuel pump turns on.
