Default RTAP Reinforcements Install Time?

Does anyone have an idea of how long it takes to install a set of rear trailing arm pocket reinforcements? A friend just got quoted 9 hours total and asked if I thought that sounded right and I honestly don't know.

I had mine done when I did my entire rear end refresh so I don't know what portion of my labor was allocated to that.

I recently did this as part of a big refresh, so it's hard to say how long it would take to "just" do the RTAB pocket reinforcement and nothing else. We were at the shop for 2 full days with 2 guys working so 9 hours doesn't seem too far fetched. You have to drop EVERYTHING to get to that area, do the welding, paint / seal, and put everything back in.

I did mine at my friends shop on a hoist. Dropping the exhaust, driveshaft, gas tank, strapping the arms together out of the way, grinding, welding, seam sealing, painting and reinstalling everything took a good days work. I know some guys do it without dropping the tank but I really don't know how you can get in there easily without dropping the tank. I'd say 9 hours is definitely fair. If you want to save money prep everything at home then have a mobile welder come and do the plates

If I was doing this again, I would not drop the tank. Stuff some damp rags up there best you can and go slow. Also prob would not weld the full perimeter. Spray the plates with weld thru primer all over. Prob weld 1" tacks all around and fully weld the bungs. The hotter you get it the more damage youll do to the inside rustproofing etc. Then get some real 3m two part seam sealer not the undercoating crap, and seal it all up. Then paint is the order they recommend iirc.

Does not sound that far off to do it right. Lot of grinding, welding, painting, and sealing. I assume this quote is without dropping the tank. I don't see how you could drop the tank, do the pockets, and re-install in 9 hours unless the shop has done a bunch of these and has the timing down.

Where's Cal.

He did the entire rear refresh -RTA plates, replace all bushings, new trans mounts, diff service and replace bushings, short shifter and associated hardware and rear shock mount reinforcements - in about 9 hours. He started at 5 pm, took a break for dinner, then went back to work until around midnight. He put it all back the next morning, and including a trip to Midas to have a broken exhaust bolt taken out. He was done by about noon and I was back on the road by 1.

Never removed the gas tank. He's a baus.

Calvin is a bear and man handles everything with ease!

I've done my share of reinforcements and they do take time, 9 hour quote is acceptable. I never took the tank down just shoved a wet towel in there.

My welder told me there was no way he would have welded in the plates without the tank being removed. I know it is done. Some folks trim the plates to remove material near the tank as well. Anyway, I have not heard of anyone blowing themselves by igniting the tank, yet.

It woulda been nice without the tank in the way but was way nicer not having to remove it
