Was April the final build month, or May? Mine is 4/99

Awesome, good to know... Like I said before, I'm fine with the wear (maybe I'm weird) but I think it actually looks cool. Just don't want it to get worse...

These are the original export plates (why they are red instead of blue) from the first owner's European delivery, these are a part of the car's story so I'm keeping them.

One question though regarding seats... The driver's side seat has a bit of creaking and moaning in it. Also, I just discovered it won't recline. Is there a way to rebuild the guts of the seats, or is this more like a swap them out kind of case?

The final build month was May, but only 2 coupes were built that month.

EY83963 5/4/99 TITANSILBER METALLIC (354) TEILLEDER W.N./SCHWARZ (N5SW)
EY83747 5/7/99 DAKARGELB 2 (337) TEILLEDER W.N./SCHWARZ (N5SW)

There were 5 Hellrot/Magma coupes built in April of 1999, but each one lists a sunroof in the build sheet. Wondering if the build-sheet database has an error, or if the PO of your car deleted the sunroof.

EY83479 4/15/99 HELLROT (314) TEILLEDER W.N./MAGMA (N5AX)
EY83488 4/15/99 HELLROT (314) TEILLEDER W.N./MAGMA (N5AX)
EY83560 4/17/99 HELLROT (314) TEILLEDER W.N./MAGMA (N5AX)
EY83664 4/20/99 HELLROT (314) TEILLEDER W.N./MAGMA (N5AX)
EY83900 4/26/99 HELLROT (314) TEILLEDER W.N./MAGMA (N5AX)

If you have not already, use a vin decoder and type in the last 7 of your VIN, it will give you exact build date and all your options. www.bmwvin.com

MMMGP is the resident expert on production numbers & build stats. Much of what we know here is due to his research and leg work.

April 29 was the last mass production day for US Spec E36 M3 coupes. For some reason though, the sequential VIN's may not be totally indicative of actual build order. The last sequential VIN is EY84011....but shows a 4/28 build date. Oddly though, (3) numbers before it, EY84008 shows a 4/29 build

Simplified, EY84002 (my car) shows 4/28 and EY84001 shows 4/29...both are the exact same color combo, but apparently not built next to one another. One step further, who is to say that EY84008 (highest # on 4/29) was the actually the last car made and not 3974 (lowest # on 4/29). Who really knows what order these cars came off if they were already out of order with the 28/29th splits.

It's obvious I researched this subject quite a bit (maybe too much). I did most of it as I was buying my car, and I'd be lying if I said it didn't have an effect on my purchase decision (it was not my sole decision maker, as the car came with tons of records and was well sorted). My opinion is that I don't think anyone really knows (as 100% fact) what order the final ones came out in. The only verifiable fact is that there are 9 VINs higher than mine....so that's what I go with. I did go crazy with Autocheck...of the 9 higher numbers, I think 4 were off the road or salvaged.

**Also worth note that VINs 3963 and 3747 show random build dates in May. Not sure what that was about or if it's accurate seeing as though they are way out of order.

With 122k it is unlikely that the vanos does not need done. It makes a distinct rattle that can be found on YouTube. If it is due for refreshing Beisan Systems or DrVanos are where to go. These cars have hydraulic lifters that do not need adjusted. Nice car..

Yea to be honest, I did not look into the production date or anything like that when buying the car at all. The paint on the roof is definitely original, as is the interior.

This is what that site shows me when I enter my VIN. Interestingly enough, my VIN is not among those listed above as being made in April of 1999 but it says right here, production date April 26th 1999. For the sake of posterity please add this info into your database. I trust no one will do anything weird with my VIN
