I don't remember any cooling systems ever spontaneously exploding with no warning.

E36 cooling systems do "explode". Ask me how I know.

E36 yes, not E46. Getting 100k out of bearings that see 8000+ is fine. Vanos issues are a small price to pay for linear, 120hp/L explosions to Valhalla.

I feel like this is a trap...

How u know?

and I did think of one example of an exploding cooling system, M62 fan clutch locking up at freeway speeds. Warning is that it gets really loud right before the fan blades give up and turn into shrapnel destroying everything in their path including the hood.

But that was just 1 time.

Haha, not a trap. The radiator on my E36 failed. The fitting for the upper hose fractured off. Not really an "explosion", but it did cause a rapid loss of coolant. Thankfully there was no damage. Apparently it's not uncommon for a head gasket to fail when this happens.

ah yes, the dreaded black turned brown plastic cooling parts.

head gasket on overheating for the iron block cars...whole new engine on overheating for aluminium block cars
