I am having this exact symptom right now. Flicker at idle. However, my pusher fan is dying (one on order). Hopefully that fixes the issue. The engine only has about 82k on her... no extreme driving done.

I get the Castrol Mineral (non-synth) oil that BMW sells. Old habit from working at the dealer years back. 15w-40 iirc. This started many weeks ago and it has been a lot hotter than it currently is. I replaced the water pump last year along with the t-stat. But, I did notice my pusher fan is not functioning correctly and it seems this all started around when I noticed the dying fan.

I was having the same problem with my 96. Currently having the engine rebuilt. My mechanic measured the OP gears and it was caused by the OP. My car had 190k on the engine before the rebuild. You definitely need to have the OP checked/replaced.

Well, since I reported this. The light no longer flickers. It seems to only do it during an overheat situation; which was the case of the other day as my A/C was overheating my car.

i strongly suggest you check out ur cooling components. it might be just a bubble in the system or something more serious because u overheating for using ur ac is not normal.

To come back to this. I still get the flickering light at idle after I've been driving for awhile. I have since replaced the aux fan so that correctly works, and I recently replaced the radiator and did a full flush. There is no air in the system.

The engine has around 80k on it. So, I'm still at a loss. This only happen at idle and if I press the gas pedal down just a bit the light goes away. All the lifters sound normal too and the oil level is correct.
