Default In Bay Area for a Week

I am heading to the San Jose next week for some training for work. I've never been to the area, and don't really have much of an idea on what I should do while I'm there. Only thing I know I want to do is drive north to see the redwoods. So other than the generic response of the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, etc... what can I do while I'm there? What are some good hole in the wall must try restaurants?

I'm sure Ill get a shit box for a rental car... so driving up Coastal Hwy may not be that enjoyable...

Be sure to download the San Francisco poop map and watch where you step.

The drive through the redwoods was awesome. Not worth it in a rental beater though. Go for dinner at the market at China live.
One of my favourite food experiences ever. Also get a cubano at media noche

If hertz, completely worth dropping $10 more per day and getting the charger RT - You can then drive up to Santa Rosa and smoke with Jim

There are coffee shops, AMP, bar/lounge on the a Tuesday with tittees and fries, to go to after work. =)

On the weekend, there's your typical shopping at major plaza: Santana Row, Union Sq SF, Clubs etc.
