Default Manual Transmission? 2017 M3

I joined the forum to ask whether my obsession with buying a 2017 M3 with a manual transmission is warranted. In SoCal, I can't find a manual in a dealer's inventory - so, I'm thinking of ordering one. But, is it really worth the effort - or is the automatic/double-clutch transmission sufficient. I currently drive a 2015 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet with a manual transmission. And, my last M Car, a 2007 M Roadster, was a manual transmission. I already decided to buy a 2017 M3 - I just have to decide on the transmission. Am I overthinking the whole transaction by insisting on a manual? Just can't seem to get my head around an automatic M car . . . looking forward to reading your comments.

Yup order it. I wouldn't want this car with a DCT.

I would guess most think the DCT is superior and it costs more so dealers stock the cars with all the options. If you don't want every box ticked, order it. 4-5 months and it will be yours.

The manual transmission is a dying breed in cars.....so sad, but true. It seems these days if you want a car in built with a real manual three pedal transmission, you will need to special order it from the dealer.

The way I see it, if you are buying a sports car then you need to buy it in the manual tranny. Especially if you have owned them for the better part of your life.

I have 2002 M3 with the six speed manual and she never fails to put a huge smile on my face every time I drive her. Sometimes I even giggle like a lil school girl.

I curious why you're making the switch from a GTS to a M4. I have a GTS and I am contemplating the same thing. Haha

Waited 3 months for a custom order to get my M4 in 6MT. Worth it.

Hope you ordered. I finally just took delivery of my 6MT. So glad I waited and didn't go with the DCT. Nothing wrong with DCT, but for me, as long as I have two feet, I will continue to have drive cars with 3-pedals if they are offered. I don't care if my reaction time is positively glacial compared to today's DCT. I'm personally far less evolved than most give me credit for. I like to row my own gears.

I had ordered mine with a DCT because being in the San Francisco Bay-Area it gets challenging driving home with a manual. Even though there is no substitute for it. I really enjoy driving a manual with my past M-cars, and Porsches, but there comes a time when technology wins over like the DCT. Good-luck on your decision...
