Pound for pound, how many N/A motors out there today pushing 300+hp make more HP per liter than the S54? I can't think of any cars under 100k to be honest.

The GM 3.6 V6 found in the Camaro or ATS has about 325hp NA and it's actually a 3.564 L. Pretty close extremely reliable and mass produced motor. Fun motor

Yep, that's exactly it. Third and fourth and even fifth gear in this thing are relentless - not ultra quick or powerful, but quite fast. It just keeps on pulling and pulling and never lets up. BMW just nailed it with this powerband and gearing combo.

Well said - it takes a massive power difference, and a bit of room, to really see a marked difference between two cars in the real world, and that's only true in a straight line. Once you factor in reality this car is very potent. And on a canyon run it can carry so much speed that it's downright scary fast.... bone stock, assuming really good tires... and yet not "scary".

Not really close (it is about 16hp/l off which would indicate a 50+hp bump) , especially when you consider the 15 year gap between the two. It's just not as special and the fact that it is mass produced makes it even less so. But I think I have gone off track a bit here.

91 hp/L is pretty far off 103 hp/L, and it's way to early to know if it's reliable, much less "extremely reliable".

That said, GM builds a good engine. I certainly prefer them to anything BMW builds these days.

Meh - that motor peaks around 6.5k from what I can tell. That's a snooze fest.

The torque curve is nice and flat, though - I'll give it that.

Yes, it is a bit off but you have to figure the CAFE laws affect output potential of many modern engines >2008. Small tweaks like, running Premium fuel, improving flow of the intake and tuning the air/fuel/timing, its over 100hp/L.

Lovely motor and impressive reliability.

You're now comparing stock to modded

That said, got a dyno of a tune/intake/93 octane/no other mods (setup you described) ATS V6 putting down >=296 SAE rwhp on a dynojet?

That's that engine at 100hp/L at 17% drivetrain loss, adjusted for environmental conditions.

Googling "ATS V6 tune" only gets results of ~12hp gained for a 93 octane tune, but I assume there's something better out there (as googling "e46 m3 tune" probably wouldn't turn up very useful results, either).
