Does anybody know what's going on with the airbags in the doors and A pillars? And those in the back panels, if you have them

Thanks.
It's not necessary for the airbag replacement but they did flash the ecu for some 10 year old emissoins recall without asking. I will need to recode my shift lights and sport mode coding.

Your airbag looks fine. Mine was all corroded. My car was from Florida then Colorado. The Florida humidity sure made a mess of it. I think I had a picture of it very early in this thread. My was done in October.

Interesting. I'll look for your post. Mine has always been in Texas.

They replaced the cover as courtesy or did they break your original?
Mind if I ask which dealer you went to?

Morristown. I believe the cover has to be replaced as part of the recall process.

Units Affected The number of vehicles or components affected by the recall. 30,838
Category Car, SUV
Recall Details
On certain vehicles, the driver frontal airbag inflator could produce excessive internal pressure during airbag deployment. Increased pressure may cause the inflator to rupture, which could allow fragments to be propelled toward vehicle occupants, increasing the risk of injury. This could also damage the airbag module, which could prevent proper deployment. Failure of the airbag to fully deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of personal injury to the seat occupant. Note: This recall supersedes special service campaign 2014-587. Correction: Dealers will replace the airbag module.
Make Model Model Year(s) Affected
BMW 3 SERIES 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006
BMW 5 SERIES 2002 2003
BMW X5 2003 2004
I looked up the part numbers on realoembmw.com.

Based on my VIN (12/2001 production date), the p/n for the driver airbag is:
32306757891
HUB CAP, AIRBAG
From: 12/17/2001 To: 06/28/2016

This part was found on E46 from 4/1997 to 8/2006, among other E39 and E53 vehicles.
The above part superseded this part:
32301096808
HUB CAP, AIRBAG
From: 12/01/1999 To: 05/16/2003 (ENDED)
And was superseded by this part:
32306880599
HUB CAP, AIRBAG
From: 08/01/2016 To: -
Based on the above, it looks like BMW Canada is trying to get off the hook based on interpreting model year as production dates.
A few days ago, I received the recall notice in the mail. After I posted the quoted info above, I contacted both the dealer and BMW Canada and asked them to explain why 12/2001 production dates were excluded when two of the part number usages overlap into that month. They had no explanation. Not being satisfied with that, I contacted Transport Canada. They deferred to BMW Canada, so I sent in a complaint. I'm not implying any credit for this, but now that BMW Canada's adamant claim that 12/2001 didn't need to be included in the recall has reversed, it would be interesting to know what led to the change. I will be getting it done this week. Glad that I won't have this uncertainty going forward. I'll try and get a picture of the airbag.

I received a letter from BMW explaining the driver's side airbag parts are in. Finally. I emailed my service rep, hopefully I can get in soon and be done with this mess.

Btw, located in Chicago burbs.

BMW replaced both the airbag and the cover. The part number for the airbag that was removed is 33109680803X. It's strange that this part number doesn't seem to exist in realoem.com, despite there being lots of hits for it if I search using google.
