If you're going to go through the trouble of custom ordering it, do an individual car and get some fancy color as well.

I'm in the process of selling my PDK 911 C4S. I had an E46 M3 6MT and loved every bit of it. I'm in a similar situation as someone before me stated. The traffic was a factor as well as the DCT technology is pretty bad ass too.

If it's your daily, get a DCT. LA traffic is horrible. I used to commute to DTLA every day with a 6MT E92 M3 and it was hell. Last thing I needed was to clutch in clutch out in a stuffy suit in stop and go traffic that was more stop than go. Manual may be fun, but doing it on the 405 or the 10 every day takes all the fun out of it.

If it's your weekend car, get a manual. Have a little fun, and manuals tend to keep resale better due to their being harder to find and coveted by true blue enthusiasts.

It's a perfectly valid third option to buy a 6MT M3, then buy a used Prius or something, and delegate the M3 to a weekend car. I eventually caved and started putting around in a used Corolla, then a Prius....then made the mistake of getting a 2015 STi since I "wanted a fun car to drive daily." Oh how I miss that Corolla now (Prius not so much).

having the opportunity to drive around my brother's new DCT M3 and it feels like one continuous gear, wide open or casual driving. with the new technology in these cars, I do not understand any argument for a 6MT unless it's simply...."I want a 6MT because to me, it is more 'fun'"

theres no argument that the dct is easier in traffic, shifts faster, and will allow you to run better lap times. However since i bought mine as my "fun toy" and it is not my daily, the manual is more engaging and a lot more enjoyable to drive that its worth giving up a few fractions of a second in shift times. Theres something about rev matching and perfectly downshifting through the gears before a turn that is just gratifying when you're doing it yourself. also since a lot of brands are phasing away from manual transmissions all together its nice to enjoy them before they become completely obsolete and a thing of the past. i've only owned the car for a little over a month and you'd be shocked at how many people have looked at the car and made the comment " I'm glad some people can still drive a stick".

The first comment of nearly every man that has seen my M4 6MT is: "You got the manual, nice!"

Regardless if you get it in stick or not, if you are getting a new car, order it. Can't imagine spending new car money on something that other people have beaten on a test drive during break in.

Also, get the stick. You know that the enjoyment of a perfectly rev matched downshift can never be made up for with irrelevant lap times or shift speeds.
