And no motor changes yet (not that they’re really needed)

And I really am not sure what the R packed over a 981 GTS or S (was there a GTS then?). I thought it basically got a sport exhaust for 10hp and lost a lot of weight and some suspension / aero improvements.

981 is the GT4. Using your assumptions about BMW, what do you think Porsche would have charged in additional msrp for a different engine, suspension, front and rear bumper, unique top and trunk lid on the Spyder, etc.? Would you have guessed at the time that Porsche could include all of that for a mere $10-15k?

Isnt most of that already in the M2C vs M2? For like $5k?

If the GT4 also added carbon fiber hood/roof/trunk and other weight savings to the tune of the 150-200lbs apparently desired of the hypothetical $75k M2 CSL then Im impressed.

Right. I would say "some" not "most" since the M2C's suspension and bumper changes are minor compared to the GT4's suspension and bumper changes, but that wasn't the question, which was about how Porsche was able to do it. Look at it in relative terms. Assume the hypothetical M2 CSL keeps the front and rear bumpers from the M2C, and getting a new hood/roof/trunk is somewhat comparable to the GT4 getting a new f+r bumper.

If this is changing from give me an M2 CSL for $75k to give me an M2C with Carbon body pieces from the catalogue for $75k then I agree it could potentially be done.

But not personally knowing everything that goes into a full-on/real CSL or GTS off the top of my head.... Id point to the best comps we have , which are the E46CSL / E92GTS / F82GTS, all of which ranged from 75-100% more expensive than the base M3

I suspect the changes from Cayman GTS to Cayman GT4 are much less significant than M3 to M3 CSL/GTS, but happy to be shown otherwise as I am not overly familiar with the GT4.
