Hey all,
I have been getting a battery draining while car is off alert lately, and while doing some research online, this can be several different things, I have decided to replace my battery. Poking around here and other forums, the cost + labor to install a new OEM is like 500 USD, and it seems many people recommend getting a "lightweight" aftermarket replacement. Can anyone shed light on this? What brands are recommended, are lightweight batteries just lighter? Any additional pros and cons here? Thanks! ![]()

Not sure bout lighter ones but pretty much batts are made by 2-3 companies. Get one with the best warranty and have it coded.

I used an Autozone AGM battery. I forget the model, but think it is H8. All the warranties are really 3 years now. The stock and aftermarket ones weigh about 60 lbs. The car is power hungry and I think a lower capacity one won't last as long and could be risky in severe cold or if you let the car sit for a week at a time without using a charger. If you don't drive your car in winter, or keep it on a trickle charger, a lower capacity one might be fine for a few years. I forget the models for the lower capacity batteries, but it might be H6 and I think you can even run a Mini battery if the car is really a warm weather trickle charger car. I drive my car year round, so I bought the full size AGM replacement.

Use coupon code TRT30 to get $50 off and do local pick up. New battery with higher capacity for approximately $110. Code and register with an indy or private guy for another $50-100.

i always buy AGM batteries now; lasts longer, maintenance free…
btw, why do you have to 'code' when changing a battery? I just undid my neg.side for about 30min. to take the air bag down and reconnected the batt; not a single issue….??? james 08 e92 m3 44k miles |

All batteries are the same just look at CCA and warranty, have it coded also. You can diy just don't go to the dealer. There are better brand if you are looking to save on weight.

I used this one. Black friday sale was really good. Always look at pep boys online for coupons and then buy online with in store pick up. It's cheaper than going to the store and buying one. Not sure why they do this but they do...

Just buy an AGM, which is an H model or will have an AGM designation. Those all look pretty close in spec but only 2 are AGM. I think the H8 is stronger than stock and ideally would get coded; the Group 49 AGM is close enough to stock to drop in and just reset battery adaption.
