Default Re: Group buy VinceBar - laser cut components

I'm in SoCal too - - I was thinking of reaching out to C&C Collision to see if they do this kind of work, or European Motor Works? Platte Forme AG seems like a good option too, but it looks like they've disappeared?

The thing with the weld option is that I think shops will charge quite a bit for this procedure - - maybe $1,300 and above? From what Vince described, it sounds like revisiting the welded plate option all over again but with a few extra steps tacked on.

Goddamn BMW.....

I'm in Temple City, CA and am interested in the weld in kit but am curious on how difficult it'll be for a shop to do without proper instructions. If there are any other Southern California people maybe we can contact EAS or a similar shop and get a group install discount? Haha. :-p

Vince, I may have missed it from a past thread, but what grade of steel is used in your kits?

But what I see daily are typical German car colors; blacks, silvers, grays and whites. They look nice, I agree, but to me the appeal is what the M cars were in the 1980s – an event. It’s not so much that I want to be noticed, but more that I want to stand apart from the crowd. And to me, Phoenix Yellow and Laguna Seca Blue are two of the best ways to differentiate your M3 experience from the norm.

That's probably a very good idea. I've also been toying with the idea of teaming up with some independent BMW shops and/or a few capable members of this forum who'd be interested in taking on installations. And I believe it would be easier to do so with the epoxy/rivet version.
That's BTW the kit I'll be installing for the folks that come to me for an installation. Welding under/up is just a PITA and is also quite messy.

With an epoxy/rivet installation i have scheduled for the first week of September I'll also take new pictures for a detailed instruction which will then come with all the epoxy/rivet kits.

If anyone knows of, or is, a capable and willing installer here on the forum, please let me know. Id like to discuss a mutually beneficial partnership should should everything go as planned and I start a small business.

The custom hardware is made from a quenched and tempered round bar of the CrNi alloy 34crnimo6.

The sheet metal parts are made from the cold formed mild steel DC01.

And the square pipe I use is a EN10219 carbon steel pipe. 25x25 mm with a wall thickness of 3mm.

The purpose of this "bar" is to avoid a moment due to the offset of the mount relative the chassis leg. And as deflection is my primary concern size and thickness has priority versus steel quality. The load (and thus stress) is also not high enough to justify high strength steel.

Thanks for the reply Vince! Rivet/epoxy version might be in my future then. I'll go back over all the information on it and see if I'm comfortable tackling it myself or at the least show this thread to a shop to get their opinion on installing it.

Hey Guys,

Is there a group planning on sharing the shipping cost ? I'm located in Las Vegas, but I travel to SoCal regularly.

Hi Vince, Sign me up for a Epoxy/Rivet Assembled kit!

Have been following your threads for a wile and was considering getting a kit later this year since i'm planing to do all the work in winter. But i might as well join in on the group buy now.

I'm also very interested in the underside epoxied plates you mentioned, looking forward to see the progress on that.

Regards

Status update.

As of now I have received deposits for eight kits, and orders (where the deposit is still pending) for another seven kits.

This brings us into the first discount bracket (15-20 kits) and the 5% discount on the kits. Sorry, there's no room for discount on the shipping. However, I have added towns and states (and country where appropriate) to the list in post #2 (which is also copied below).

As I'm nearing the point (Monday next week) where I'll be giving the laser cutting shop a green light to go, I'll be asking for the deposits from those still pending such.

I've also decided to keep the group buy open until September 12th. So please let me know if you are planning to address the root cause of the dreaded RACP (aka subframe) issue.

Can we make it past 20, and everyone gets 10% off?

Vince
