Default 98 M3 Silver Sedan - Refresh Thread

I just picked up a nice automatic sedan last night. I know this is generally a manual-transmission forum, but it's a car I've wanted to own for a couple years. I've got a manual already so that base if covered. I've never driven a ZF 5HP18 Transmission more than a mile or 2 and I must admit. It's pretty cool. I'll always be a die-hard stick driver but this will be fun.

I've been trying off and on for a year to find an un-modified automatic sedan for a good price. My criteria was relatively loose since automatic sedans weren't high production cars. Maybe I can get my wife to drive it.

Anyway, I scanned CList Saturday evening and got really lucky! I spotted the posting 9 minutes after Gerry posted it. We spoke 11 minutes later to plan a meeting. The soonest available time was the next morning and I was pumped.

I got there to see it parked out front. Gail bought the car 17 years ago and kept it in the garage, for the most part. The paint is very nice and the interior is basically the same. It's a Titanium Silver on Black leather (buffalo $500 leather-credit because of late production) 98 M3/4/A with 117,030 miles. It has some dings and scratches but everything works properly except for the power mirrors. Clean title.

I'm going through the records now to plan the jobs ahead.

Awesome. Been thinking about picking up an Auto myself as a DD. I sit in too much traffic for a manual everyday. Good luck with it!

Congrats! Was thinking you were on to bigger and better things as you didn't buy or sell any E36 M3's in all of 2014!

Congrats! Sure the majority of us prefer standard trans, but I think we all coming to appreciate how rare & special these M3's are becoming. I hope you have fun with it.

Suaveflooder sold his already?

Jk, nice pickup OP! Looks like a nice example. Also, I love DS2. Like a 10 spoke LTW.

I think you may be pushing it a little with that statement....

I really enjoy clean DS2s... but any clean OEM wheel is typically more tolerable than what we normally see.

So far, yes! I looked for you when I was going through Oakdale on Saturday, if that's where you are near. I went to Sonora for a bike race.

Uh--not very solid yet. The tires were all at ~20psi. The engine was almost a quart low. I added a few ounces of coolant and the PSteering fluid is nice and red, albeit, overfilled. I thought for sure the steering fluid would be low.

I needed a break. It's love-hate sometimes.

On one hand I wish I was there but on the other hand I bought a piece of the original owner. Meeting Gail was a pleasure.

These DS2s are pretty rashed on the passenger side. They will be for sale soon. I've got some Contours or LTWs I'd prefer anyway. There are a lot of records of general maintenance. I was hoping for more. Women aren't known for excessive maintenance but the interior is very nice for it's age. It was certainly driven lightly and is all original. 1st is some Rotella T6 since it's been 5,000 miles since the last change. Then an air filter. Gotta start with the wash-my-hands maintenance.
