Hey Sleeks,

I have never run the car in the 1/4 mile, 99% of all tracks around here are 1/8 mile. Rockingham is the only 1/4 mile track close by, just have never gone there before.

Last time I ran the car, it ran a 7.19 @ 96mph (i think that is right mph, need to check the timeslip to be sure, it was around that though). That was with a mild tune and 25 psi on drag radials. I could prolly get a little more out of it if I adjusted the timing a bit and up'ed the boost 2-3 psi. If you have never ridden in a GN, you are in for a real treat when you do, nothing compares to feeling 500 ft/lbs torque slamming you in the seat

I get alot more looks in the GN than I ever do in the M3. The Buick is a legendary American muscle car now. Lots of people have no clue when they see one, but you can always tell the ones who do, they are the ones always staring and giving the thumbs up

Love both the cars, both are completely different animals. It's tough sometimes deciding which to drive that day

I'll try to get up some pics if I can for you.

not sure where you are at in NC, but just incase you aren't aware, Fayetteville has a decent 1/4 mi strip... TnT is every sunday from 1-6

also, lots of local people into big power/dragging hang out here: www.hpjunkies.com it's a slightly different attitude than you'll find on this site, but there are some good knowledgeable folks there

Thanks Caz, I forgot about Fayetteville, it's a little further than the Rock for me, so I tend to always forget about it. I'm up in the Triad area, so I usually hit the local 1/8 mile tracks when I do go.

I also troll on the junkies site now and then, some good reading and stories there, can get very entertaining sometimes.

Been to VIR lately? I was there last weekend for the Ferrari Challenge. A very sweet experience, LOTS of money rolling around the track for sure.

Have someone who's a good driver drive your car while you ride shotgun. Have him [or her] ramp it a few times tracking out WOT in third. If that doesn't re-assure you, go buy a bike.

While fast is subjective, I think everyone can agree that first gear in the M3 is a dog. It is no way on par with the rest of the gate.

Also, the lack of low end torque makes the car feel "quick" rather than powerful. I had a 97 Ram Air T/A and when you hit the gas from a stop you knew about it. It also had a complete lack of control at any speed if you were to encounter pavement that didn't resemble an Indy 500 track.

I have to agree, I truely miss the sheer low end grunt of my muscle car, but I always considered the M3 a highway monster. Downshift at 90 MPH and zip in and out of traffic and you will see where the M3 shines. The shame of it is you have to break the law to have most of the fun in this car when it comes to speed.

People claim that the power is linear but there is really nothing under 4k - drive the car blindfolded under 4K and only the clutch thump, rough cold idle, and random brake clicks will distingush it from a regular 3 series. After 4K is a different story all together though.

Edit - You have to also understand that this is a model that is almost 7 years old. Compare it to other 7 year old cars and it is pretty terrific.

anyway, the M3 is not that fast to me in a straight line, but it is definitely fast enough to be seriously respected. also, like others have stated...it's pretty damn fast when driven properly through the turns though.
hehehe.." few bolts-ons " and an RSX runs high 13s, what are you smoking buddy???..RSX stock from factory is doing 15.1. and few bolts ons knocks off a second on a N/A 4 banger??? stay off the sun

I had to take my M into the dealer to have a tire pressure issue fixed. They ended up having to buy a new set of S03 Pole Positions that wouldn't be in for a few days, so I got a loaner. Great. They gave me a freakin Dodge Neon, probably snickering behind my back. Hey it had chrome wheels and a wing! I gave them a hard time, saying I came in an M3 and I'm leaving in a Neon, what's wrong with that picture??

Anyway, the Neon - front wheel drive, about 130 hp, 0-60 in 3.6 minutes, built like you'd expect a Yugo to be built, rattling, shimmying down the road at 65, god forbid you take it over 70 and the thing starts to scream like a banshee (a very very sick, diseased banshee that is only minutes from death). That is a slow car. And it makes the M3 look and feel like a Ferrari. So in that comparison, yes, the M3 is fast as hell and I was happy to have it back in my hands two days later.

pretty standard, especially for the 05+ with a 4.7 final drive and slightly more aggresive cams. go check it out at clubrsx.com- there're PLENTY of slips, and it's been a known fact for years now. cai/race header/exhaust/k-pro ecu/decent tires and motor mounts...you're there...in a FWD 2.0L. that's just the straight-up truth.

hell, i ran 14.0 with just a intake, header w/test pipe, motor mounts, standard reflash, and toyo T1-S's with a full interior on my '02. i upgraded to race header, programmable ecu, and '05 cams, and it was high 13's all day...best of 13.7@ 102.5 w/ 2.13 60'.
