Ev - it's easy to check.... take a flashlight, and check the bushings around the shaft for the thottle pedal linkage. Mine was broken and loose..... resulting in <<<WOT.

Another little set-back.... it seems I broke my bmw computer display upon removal with my gorrilla hands....... upon pulling it out the diplay came off in my hands and a rear circuit board started to pop out.... I figured this was bad news..... on start-up and 2 days of driving I've got no speedo, no cruise control, and no miles travels data...... ordered up an ebay replacement. fingers crossed. Option 2.0 I damaged some wiring behind the gage panel when I pulled it loose to inspect. More to follow.

ha, yeah, I had a similar deal with my throttle pedal. The bushings on either side were worn and the cable had a lot of slack, too. Replaced both bushings and the cable and things really livened up for me. Such an inexpensive and simple "fix" to create a whole new driving experience.

A little compare of the c63 vs the e36 from the drivers seat.
Two great N/A auto's.

Shifter Project Completed -

Out with the old sloppy mess:

Much better:

Have to see how that exposed ball socket holds-up over time...... seems like there should be a shroud of some sorts:::

I just picked up my 5th e36 m3 also from Craig's list. I've done all of the different routes except ls swap. Turbo , sc, cams , and s54 swap. S54 honestly is pure awesomeness . I may end going that route again in the future. Great thread

GG - Cheers E36 Brother!

Buying a "cheap" example is not for everyone.
For me it's a way to get to know this car... everything I tear down, diagnose, and repair provides the 'alone-time' to see if I bond with a car....... and well.... I'm hooked.
I have not felt this way about a car in a long long time. I've been through a host modern bimmers, and benz's, and z06's........ and well this little car just talks to me.

I really don't think you can duplicate this experience with any new car today.

A summary below if you like:

Major Mech issues to-date:
1. blown shocks/struts.
2. plugged ccv sep system.
3. ECS inop... killing power.
4. gas pedal falling apart giving 50% WOT!! LOL.. my biggest HP mod to-date.
5. brakes shot......
6. rear strut mount rubber gone at chassis.

Major Cosmetic Issues to-date:
1. Ugly fake cf badging everywhere... replaced w/ OEM.
2. curbed wheels - getting refinned.
3. shot vader seats - getting recovered as I write this (auto-berry)
4. faded lights all around - replaced with OEM color/style
5. crazy hole in drivers carpet from the stiletto-heel-from hell!..... not avail from OEM anymore... sourced clean used (fleabay).... good shampoo wash dry in sun......
6. non-stock shifter from auto-zone..... given back to fast and 2 furious gods.....
7. center console armrest leather shot! replaced.
8. rear trunk lid dealer installed spoiler rusting out mount points....... replaced with clean non-spoiler trunk lid (wgt savings).
9. paint job... est in the works. going same color for now. In a future mod phase... I might change color IF I do the mad-lsx-widebody conversion... (up-side always on tap), but will see where this adventure leads.....

Parts on order or in shop ready to go in:
1. M50 intake swap kit, iat relocation bits. On order.
2. U/D crank pulley/belts. On order.
3. Replacement vanos oil line. Stocker leaking.
4. New mouldings all around.
5. New door handling mouldings.
6. Subframe connector frame.
7. Spare caliper set.... rebuild kits...... (blingy paint)........ new rear rotors... new rear pads.... SS brake lines.

,,,,, my deepest regrets to the landcruiser that was tailgating me today on 59...... I turned on my wipers and one rubber blade assy flew off...... he gave me a honk, lmk I'm number 1... then fell back quite a bit .... .perhaps concerned more parts were coming?

Part of my multi-point inspection shake-down ..... can't have parts falling off on track (if I can help it)>
