Looks as if I be getting this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/261951836011...seems the best deal and not too far from me...thanks for sharing. I might talk a friend to let go a Toshiba if confirms with serial port.

Didn't accomplish much today, as if DIS can't automatically identify the vehicle, the software becomes cumbersome...after all BMW made it to work seamlessly with its vehicle.

Good deal, I believe you need an ads interface. It's been a while since I ordered it and did the research but there's a lot more bogus stuff out there than legit. That seller is gtg.

Did you ever get INPA to work? It was a pain to get it installed on Windows 10 but I have all the kinks worked out. But, like you, it does not recognize the E36 M3 OBDII config. Seems to be missing some data files.

Thanks,
--Joe

That's only part of the hardware BMW used.
Hell Brett, I've got a GT1 too.. It's not showing off...lol It's what works. (although it's a complete pita to get running right. IBM laptop, VM ware...)

The nice thing is you don't an IBM laptop. I take it you say IBM as in, old laptop with native serial port (RS232).

The GT1 head connects through RJ45 cable, so any device with a port will do.

If just using DIS/Progman it's fairly straight forward, only when you want to use INPA/NCS Expert etc you have to start editting the EDIABAS.ini file and set IP adresses.

Since most modules connect through K-line only, my GT1 collects dust most of the time and my 8" WIN10 tablet and cheap OBD + adapter cable does most of the tricks.

Too bad any usb-to-serial adapter will not get full ADS connectivity.

Hey folks, back to my question, any pointers on how I get the right configuration so INPA works with US S52 OBDII? It errors out when selecting MS41.1 for OBD2.

What error is displayed? It can be many things.

Is the correct interface set in ediabas.ini?

Have you added c:\ediabas\bin to your Environment Variables in Windows, or checked if they are set through the install.

Correct com port settings?

Yes. That is all set up correctly. If I select a default choice such as E46 then everything loads but gives a mismatch error. When I select the option to configure myself, then select E36, Engine, MS41.1 I get an error that some object cannot be loaded. Unfortunately the error is not very specific.
I'm guess that some needed file is missing but I'm a bit in the dark.
Thanks,
Joe

Ok if others work then the install is ok.

Check if in the INPA\CFGDAT in the file E36.ENG (or .GER if you are using German) or if you are using a later INPA, in BMW_ALT.ENG, there is a correct entry for the MSS41 under [ROOT_E36_MOTOR]:

"ENTRY= MS411,MS 41.1 for M52 US with OBDII,"

And if that is OK, then check if the actual testfile (.IPO) is located in INPA\SGDAT

There should be a MS411.IPO file there and MS411.ini.

If the ini file is not there, create a new empty .txt file and rename it MS411.ini.

Yes; however, I had to get a laptop (Dell) with the nine pin serial and the tiny ADS for my OBD! car. I use mostly DIS for my car though. Windows 7 would have been a better option.
