Default 3400rpm limit?????

Just changed the plugs and coils and before buttoning everything up I wanted to start her up to make sure all is good. Starts fine, idle sounds good, but no matter the throttle position the car acts like it’s hitting the rev limiter at 3400rpm. So weird. Breather hose is connected, all plugs (NGK) were properly torqued and all coils appear to be properly seated. Thought at first it may be a tune thing and it capped the revs until the car was warmed up, but still does it even once reaching operating temp. TTFS tune on the car. No error codes thrown.

Any help would be great.

Sounds like a similar issue I have--but I don't recall the rev limit I hit. Seems 70MPH in 5th or 6th is when I notice it since i can't go any faster--no increase in Rev or vehicle speed. No codes, no nothing. Completely intermittent, happens when very cold outside.

As part of your tune did you have a "valet" mode coded into your sport button?

Itís been cold here and the car hasnít been driven for a couple weeks. We had a few nights where it got down into the single digits - pretty cold for Virginia!

Good guess, but no, unfortunately. Checked that just to be sure though.

I tried checking all the coils/plugs today while the car was running and everything behaved as it should. Still dong the 3400 rpm thing. Decided to take to the shop and have them take a look. Got half way there and everything was back to normal. Continued to the shop and we poked around without anything obvious sticking out. No codes, completely normal. Although Iím not a fan of problems that resolve themselves with no corrective action, I guess itís a nice thing that I didnít have to throw any money at this...yet. Will keep an eye on everything with hopes that it wonít return.

How old is your MAF? It could be at the end of its life.

Left mine unplug on accident while doing some end of winter maintenance. Car would idle fine and drive fine at low rpm but wouldn't accelerate much past that 3k mark.

Any chance you got ttfs launch control mod for your tune? You'll stay at 3400rpm at a full stop.

I think I did click the box for launch control from TTFS, but since Iíve not ever received directions on how to use it (despite multiple asks for information) it wasnít something on my radar. Iíll check it out tomorrow - and if thatís the case Iíll have them tweak the tune to take that out.

However, to be honest, I canít ever recall the car doing that before and Iím the annoying guy thatís likes to rev his motor a lot.

LoL, in that case the launch control working it's magic, I'm pretty certain that's how it works, you're at a complete stop and peg the pedal to the floor, then let the clutch out, it'll just go and go, or feather the throttle if you have low grip.

It might be coincident that you've change the plug/coil that you started to notice this part of the tune. You know the feeling how things seem to go wrong after you touch something or second guessing your work.

When the throttle actuator, which is a solenoid driven unit, goes haywire, it does that which you described, meaning limits throttle opening to a lowish rpm. There's an article online published by a magazine type blogger and they describe and detail the fix for this hard limit rpm problem; I seem to remember from the article that their car stored/threw a trouble code also. In this post, no mention of that so perhaps this is not precisely the same problem.
