HT is a must have, unless you live in a place with 99% sun.

The fitted hardtop also works as an interlock for the softtop window blower/defroster.

Yes, it has one for the plastic window. Pretty cool, it's basically a hairblower; a fan with a heater element in it.

For those that have never seen it:

Hardtops are not only great in cold climates. When it's too hot out the top holds in the AC real well also.

I just installed the hardtop with the kit on my 99 M3. I purchased it from ECS as it did not come with the top (or the car itself) when I bought it.

I have put about 1000 or so miles on the car with the top on but I can not get it adjusted properly without it squeaking and popping over uneven surfaces. It is pretty annoying. My M3 has 40k miles on it and is super tight without the top on. I cannot imagine that this is normal. I have used Gummiphlege around all of the rubber and greased all metal to metal contact. Both pins are also present on the front of the top. The sound seems to come from the back and almost seems like the top is flexing.

I'd love to hear some suggestions on this. After doing some research, others have the same issues and no resolution. Info is pretty scarce and the dealership isnt offering any inspiration.

Thanks in advance.

Take the top off. No more squeaks.

You're welcome.

P.S. I love your car.

Tough to do. I bucked up and spent the almost $300 for the kit. Such a ripoff but no other options

Wow. Looking at a a 2009 ETK, it was €64 back then, now €260.

Keeping an E36 mint is becoming harder and harder. Well on the wallet.

I guess me should thank BMW for still having these parts available then!?
