Check all the fluids. Brakes, cooling, trans, diff. If it's on the original water pump is be a little skeptic on the rest. Might of been "pampered" but I would do it for peace of mind.

Dude. You stole that car at $5,900.

Do the rod bearings yourself, overhaul the cooling system, get new lenses for the headlights, rewrap the steering wheel, and pop some LED tails on it and youíll have a decent little daily driver.

If I can figure out which bolts Iím going to use, maybe Iíll do the RBs. BMW says to re use the bolts that are in there already.

Or should I chance distortion with ARP bolts?

You can reuse them on the preface lift. If you want. If I were you and plan on doing the rod bearings. I'd buy a timing chain sprocket. They are made out of plastic and wear out over time.

I did not know about the sprocket. Thank you for the suggestion.

As far as the bolts go. The shop who did my e90 RBs. Said they prefer to use ARP bolts, opposed to re using stock bolts.

But the ARP bolts will cause distortion? Or is that a myth?

I think he meant the upper timing chain guide, not sprocket, is made out of plastic. Beisan sells an improved one.

I think ARP bolts are good but the shop will need to install them correctly.

Since yours was a recalled car, you might have the newer rods in there.

Almost feels like you need to have both on hand once you drop the oil pan to see what you've got in there.

Nope. Sure didn't. The upper timing chain gets worn out as well, but I ment oil pump sprocket. https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...t/11411317284/
Side note. I heard there's another new solution to the upper chain guide. Apparently there's a billet aluminum one out there?

Interesting. Never read/heard of that part having issues though, but as with most German plastic parts, it's gotta be a wear item, right?

TIL.

BMW didnít install new rods. The service advisory was strictly the bearings only.

I will have to call and double check. But new rods would require engine tear down, and crank removal. BMW doesnít do that.

But I will be 100% honest... I see s54’s all the time for like $3k or so. More or less I hope I get to them before they let go (I was replaced under warranty at 18k according to records, and I have 153k).. But if not, well its not like trying to find an s65. They can be a little pricey.

Looks like you stole the car man! Especially for it being 6 speed already- I had to convert mine. Congrats!

Also- it seems like we are in the same boat rod bearing wise. I have no idea what to expect when I drop my pan. I am like 3/2003 build date. Kinda also feel like I need both sets on hand when I do get to it..
