Default Front tire rubbing lower spring pad

Hey everybody-

Yesterday I changed my oil, transmission fluid, and did a CDV delete on my '03 M3 Coupe (72k miles, otherwise stock). The car rode fine beforehand, and is sitting on stock 18" wheels and tires. I jacked the car up twice in the process, and removed the wheels for cleaning.

After I lowered the car the last time, the passenger front tire started rubbing against the lower spring pad.

Ride height seems within spec on the passenger side (24 3/8"), but slightly high on the driver's side (24 5/8"). It seems like the problem may have gotten worse (rubbing sounds harder); I drove the car 30 miles before garaging it again (didn't recognize what problem was at first.)

It seems like the lower spring pad may be rotated on the passenger side, but I'm not sure how this would happen or how to fix it. Also, there are two yellow marks on the coil that are facing the side of the car on the drivers side, but are 45 degrees towards the back of the car on the passenger side.

The first two attached images are of the drivers side suspension (rear of the car is to the right), the other two are of the passenger side (rear of the car to the left).

Does anyone have any ideas on what is wrong or how to fix the problem?

Thanks,
Mark

Correction: tire is rubbing against lower spring seat, not just the pad.

Sounds stupid, but you didn't put a rear wheel on the front? I just got done installing front Koni struts and I have an index finger width between the tire and spring perch. Take the tire off and inspect further perhaps, something else must be rubbing.

Ha ha, no, I checked that after I got home. The drivers side has about a finger's worth of clearance between the tire and the spring seat, but the passenger side only has about a sixteenth of an inch, if that. Jacking the car up and spinning the tire freely pretty much confirms that it's rubbing against the spring seat.

Sounds like something is broken or bent then, not sure without seeing it in person. Go see an alignment shop perhaps.

I have the exact same problem on my 03 with 45,000 miles with 19in stock wheels and stock tire size. Any of you experts have any advice or a fix???

The lower perch or hat is angled. It should angle in towards the engine bay so that it'll match the strut tower's angle. Perhaps its backwards and touching because its angled the wrong way.

Edit: It looks like the angle is correct in the pictures I think.

theres one bolt holding up the shock. that could have slip and cause rubbing. The spring supporter could be move, but its alot of work! the driver side spring support should face the back of the car and the pass side should face the right of the car.

THIS is for the front only

I rotated my lower spring mount to fix this problem on my pass side.
I wrote about this in a previous thread and posted pics.
