My apologies for passing along bad information. I realized my error in product selection and will be flushing the trans ASAP!

And thx for patiently responding to my inaccurate supporting claims (repeatedly).

Not a problem, it's a common misconception.

Will Bilstein 75W-80 GL-5 work? I know you guys are saying GL-4 is spec but looks like everything is discontinued except for the BMW stuff.

***NVM, just read a white paper that explains this and I need to go find some GL-4 oil...

I know, I got excited when I first found some 75w80 from Febi (bilstein) for like $14, but then saw the GL5 rating on the back of the bottle

The Ravenol German stuff is available from Amazon so I just got 2 bottles of it for $34 shipped. Not bad!

About that Motul lube, it has made the shifting feel much more precise and weighty, surprising enough. The shift feel has never felt better, but I have to go through this awkward routine EVERY MORNING: slot into reverse to back out the driveway, and stop; while stopped, clutch in again and gently move the stick in and out of both 1st and 2nd gear. Slot it into 1st and move off slowly, then STOP; clutch in and again move the stick gently in both 1st and 2nd gear. Then and only then will 2nd gear slot in precisely with normal shift lever effort.

Since using Motul, that first shift into 2nd gear will not happen with normal lever effort after the M sits overnight. There is simply too much resistance so naturally I do not force the matter. Other than this strange ritual, the gearbox shifts beautifully and almost has a bit of that 1903 Springfield or Mauser rifle bolt precision feel, so to speak, like that in a S2000. I would not suggest using Motul in a SMG gearbox.
Which Motul product are you using? ECS tuning suggests Gear 300 75w90 or MotylGear 75w90. Gear 300 is 100% synthetic. MotylGear is a synthetic blend. Both are thicker than MTF-LT-2. Thicker is not necessarily better.

The routine you are using isn't surprising. For the first couple of shifts into second, the required effort is very high. When it's cold, sometimes I just bypass second for the first few times. Then it's okay.
