Default Servicing Costs!!!!!! Holy Cow!!!!!

Have recently bought an E46 M3 04 plate on 40K miles for 25K! This was from BMW and they serviced it for me but since I have been racking up the mileage I thought I would drop into my local beemer dealer and check out the cost of my next service. I knew that it was an inspection 2 and would be a little pricey but apparently this is a real big one and they quoted me 950!!!!!!!!!!!!

After I got up off the floor from feeling faint, I thought maybe I should consider a bmw specialist rather than a main dealer. However I am torn because I dont want to neglect the car or rupture the immaculate dealer service history.

Does anyone know of any approved specialists that count as an official BMW 'stamp'??

I think any good mechanic could do inspection 1 or 2, it is not that big a deal. just find a good one and will be cheaper than dealer.

It seems like he lives in the UK, I know when I lived in Germany there wasn't any kind of maintenance contract and you had to pay for service. I had to pay about 800 euros for inspection I.

Hi MaxPower,

Your lucky you don't live in the London Area - i've just been qouted 1,100 (that's over $2,000 - for our US friends) for an inspection 2 service. The same service in Cornwall will cost around the 950 mark as you mentioned... Apparently labour rates explain the difference.

Think i'll be getting it serviced while I'm on holiday. You do have to wonder though if its worth staying in the network.

If you are handy, these cars are pretty easy to work on. However, if you think 900GBP os tough to swallow.....how about 4000GBP for a Testarossa!
