Default For those that have driven both... C5 Z06 or E46 M3?

Well, some of you know I've been searching my butt off the past 2 weeks trying to get into a clean M3 BAD! Every M3 that I seem to run across has a dent here, a scratch there, rock chips all over etc. Im about to just give up. Budget I set is mid 20's with around 50k miles.

Before the M3, I wanted a C5 Z06 after selling my Formula WS6 (pics below) to fill the void of a sports car. I was going to buy the vette this winter, NOT the summer so prices could take a bit of a dip. But I need a car, a car that's fun to drive.

There's a great deal, actually a steal for me, of a low mileage Z for a great price.

I know the performance of the vette more so than the M3, and I know they're 2 different vehicles. Going to look at the Z today after work. What would you guys do? I think desperation and frustration are setting in.

Pics of my old Formula...

and a quick vid...

Since I track my car alot, I'd pick the Z06. For a only/primarily street driven vehicle, I'd take the M3.

Yes, purely a DD. I'd take whatever I have and still throw it through the twisties, but that's not the focus.

I had a c5 and if it is a track car that you are looking for than the c5 z06 is the way to go (in stock form). If you are looking for a daily than choose the M. The vette does not even come close in terms of refinment or driver confidence as the M does.

Just bought an M3 last month. Having 2 kids that like to cruise too and the fact that the Z06's cost twice as much for GAS made the decision for me.A friend has one and gets 10-12mpg. Came real close to buying a sweet mint 2003 50th aniversary edition Z06 with 27,000 miles. With you coming off the Ws6 you would probably do better with a Z06, alot more potential to build HP . Just my 2 cents

^ I don't want to mod my next car, just want to drive it as much as I can. The Formula was almost a neussance to drive after a while... it was too raw of a car. There was no reason to drive it without getting 100% on the throttle.

I so want a clean M3.

Sorry, your friend is getting the poor gas mileage, not the car. By the looks of it, if you put your friend in civic and he'd get 17mpg. An M, he'd get 10mpg.

Why don't other owners wave at me?

Judging by your post, you DO want an M. (I came from an F-Body so I know exactly what you mean).

The z06 gets close to the 30mpg on the highway and about 18 city. If your cruise on the highway and are concerned about gas then the Z06 is the way to go. The best an M will do is about 26-27 on highway. But if you have the $ to buy and M or Z06 gas should be the last concern on your mind...
