I feel your pain. Two different dealerships quoted me $598 and $625, respectively, for a new replacement mirror plus 1 hour labor for install. The Service Manager at one of the dealerships felt bad for me and told me that he'll sell me the mirror at cost, which would $500 with free installation.

I'm going through Sybesma to get a replacement. As someone already mentioned earlier, the mirrors are back ordered by 2 weeks.

Best of luck.

yea dealer wants 575$ for the mirror ..um no...

1hour labor install give me a break took me 5 mins to take mine off - remove the glass , remove the circuit board off the back of the glass and put everything back up. so when i look at my rear view i just see the circuit board..lol...gonna have a buddy of mine cut me a piece of mirror (took an outline of the old mirror) and put it in there - dont need the autodim anyway - got tint

Damn, mine failed yesterday. I'll get some pics tonight. No leaking so far, and for now it's wrapped in a plastic bag.

Sounds like I'm out $75. Anyone gotten goodwill replacements lately?

Mine failed a few weeks ago and yes I am out of warranty by almost a year now. I took it off showed it to my local dealer on a Saturday (Sterling BMW, Newport Beach, CA) they called me back Monday said bring the car in BMW would pay for the part and split the labor. I brought the car in next day they called and said they replaced the mirror, they also said that my differential seal was leaking, they also repaired that at no charge. so mirror replacement and diff seal replacement cost me $41.85

There are still some dealers out there that lookout for their customers. Good luck to all.

Man, Im glad I started this thread. This seems to be an epidemic. Again, my advice to everyone is to have the dealer replace it for free, even if your out of warranty. After speaking to my cousin who is a lawyer regarding this issue, he told me they should fix it even if its out of warranty since its a defect that has nothing to do with how the product is used. He works on these types of cases.

Insist and explain how the liquid inside is curousive (sp) and will burn your skin which will lead to a much bigger problem. That lawsuit is not what they want for denying you the proper fix for this problem. Its been proven and Im pretty sure there is some kind of bulletin that BMW NA put out regarding this issue.

Unfortunately I havent followed up on this issue in a while so some of my info might be outdated. Sorry if thats the case, but this was my understanding of this situation.

What was the history of it, again? Didn't it start with a law suit threat by an Acura owner, or something like that?

You have done a lot of people a great service.

Update:

Emailed Sybesma, recieved the required form, completed it, and email it back with pictures on Friday (13th). I recieved a called directly from Sybesma today (17th) saying my mirror was being shipped and I should have it by the end of the week.

Props to Sybesma for quick service. Still a bummer to be out $75 for a stupid mirror. Oh, and that $75 is more like $90 since you have to pay for shipping.
