Default Attn //OM Scorza: Product request - CSL door panel inserts

///OM

would you be interested in producing a carbon insert to take place of the leather insert on our OEM door panels similar to the CSL? all you would have to produce is the carbon inserts. probably possible to keep the OEM M3 armrest or is the CSL pull handle an option?

hope daytonaviolet doesnt mind..

also does anyone know..
is the leather easily removable from the rest of the door panel so these could be inserted?
does the CSL have side airbags?

i know i would definitely take a pair, and then do the rear inserts

anyone else think its a good idea?

thanks!

You would lose the function of the Side airbags... The CSL does not have side airbags.

It would actually be harder to produce then you think. The CF inserts would need to be strong enough to withstand the pressure from a human elbow on the arm rests. One crack and it will be done for.

Only way it would work is if it was a copy of the OEM CSL door panel.

From a buyer prospective. I would purchase a quality replica. From a business prospective... It wouldn't be worth the time and effort

I dont think there is another other buyer option besides OEM CSL right now.

not worried about the airbags personally but could be an issue for some. i never thought about the pressure from human elbow... maybe csl door pull would be the only way to go ( could honestly go without any pull at all but i know that would never happen).

Side airbags are nice and all, and maybe for a daily driver, one wouldn't consider this type of modification...but for everyone else, the loss of side airbags may be considered negligible. As you stated, CSL's don't come with them, and I'm sure that wouldn't deter anyone from owning one. Running bucket seats, roll bars or cages, and harnesses on the street are all topics worthy of argument for safety on the street.

That said, CF is strong. How it wouldn't be strong enough to "withstand the pressure from the human elbow" would be beyond me, but hey...I don't make the stuff. Here's a picture for reference, though:

Like you said, you would buy a replica. I'd also be in on a pair of quality replicas. I think quite a few others would, too. That being said, I'm not sure why it wouldn't be worth the time and effort of a business to create a mold and produce them. With a simple disclosure and warning of loss of side airbags, similar to that of off-road/catless midpipes not being legal on the street, and a recommendation for track use only, they would cover all legalities.

Just food for thought...

Here is my first attempt at it. My first time working with carbon fiber. I need a better work area to do a better job at it. Its probably best to just overlay it over the leather because its foam underneath the so called leather inserts. Its really not real leather inserts.

I dont see the fascination with buying expensive carbon fiber pieces for the interior.

Carbon fiber body pieces I can see.
